I am having frequent crashes with my XFX 8800 Ultra XXX under the standard clock speeds. (Drivers 163.71)

I have done a lot of testing and it appears that the VRAM may be responsible, due to this clock speed being the most sensitive to crashing and the crashes being much more frequent at high resolution / settings.

I found the easiest way to reproduce is running 3Dmark 06 in loop at 2560x1600@4AA,16A. under standard clock settings it will crash within 20 mins or so whereas if it is downclocked to 612/1080 it will run for hours. The max temp for both runs is 78C, although I have done testing before where it has crashed at standard clocks at lower temps.

I raised a support docket several days ago but have not heard anything back yet (114018).

Does anyone have any ideas with narrowing down the problem or where to go from here?

Thanks

If lowering the clock speeds reduces or resolves the situation, then the problem could lie in the video card its self. I will check on the ticket when I get back in the office, but it appears an RMA may be needed in this case. If you live in Europe are you able to return this video card to your retailer? Also post in your ticket if you are able to or not.

Sorry I posted the ticket number but it turned the end into a smile it is 114018

I live in Australia, I can return the video card to the place of purchase but wanted to get a confirmation from XFX support before doing so (so there are no arguments with the store)

What is the process for RMA? Will I have to wait for the card to be tested etc. before I get a new one?

Thanks
