my 3rd 7950gt just died :(
The timeline, so far:
first card worked fantastic for a few months, but then it started getting pink artifacts. RMA, received a "repaired" card in anti-static bag.
this second card worked for literally 5 minutes, then started pink artifacting. Another RMA, this time i received a BRAND NEW card (in sealed original box & materials). cool.
this third card worked great for an hour until i noticed it was reporting temps of 90c(!) at "idle" in windows. shut it down immediately, and discovered the fan was dead. received a replacement fan in the mail (very promptly i must admit) and just installed it. now my computer won't even post.
I have a RAID-MAX 630w PSU with 18amp across 2 rails, so my PSU isn't the issue. I've tried the card in friends' systems, theirs won't post either. My old card (Geforce 6800) works fine.
I just updated ticket #113873 with news about my latest dead 7950GT, awaiting a reply. I'm assuming I will be asked to send the card back for inspection/repair/replacement.
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
1. If an XFX tech sees this post, could you please keep an eye on my ticket and grease the wheels of the repair/replacement? Would hate to wait a week+ to get a new card.
2. More importantly... can I request an overnight STRESS TEST be performed on whatever card is sent back to me?
xfx support has been great through all of this, but im still getting frustrated with all the dead cards im receiving. i'm hoping 4th time's a charm and this will be my last RMA. thank you.
