My system keeps freezing on the desktop whenever I click the start menu, or try to write a letter, etc. It BSODs with 'nv4_disp caused an error'.

After reading many posts, and reinstalling windows, using latest drivers, upgrading my PSU, lowering GPU/memory speeds, it still freezes. It runs fine in safe mode, but thats no good.

It also seems many people have this same problem, expecially with Via chipsets, and it seems to have been happening for months now, so why hasn't this problem been sorted?

Any ideas on what I can do peeps?

What are the rest of your system specs? What kiind of video card was in the system before this one? What driver versions have you used?

Yeah, I would see if a different set of display drivers solves the problem.

Could you post your system specs?

My last VGA card was a 6600GS, but I have a new motherboard, so it doesn't really count.

AMD Sempron 3300+
K8V-XE mobo (brand new)
2GB PC3200 Ram (brand new)
Windows XP (complete reformat of HD and reinstall)
Seagate 250GB SATA HD
570W PSU (certified to run current VGA cards with PCI-e 6pin connectors)

Currently running nvidia 163.71 drivers, latest Via Hyperion Pro 5.13 chipset drivers, and updated LAN drivers. There is nothing else installed on the HD, just windows and those drivers, and still it refuses to run properly, Upgraded to a 570W PSU too, and still no joy.

Any Ideas?

Xero is right a different set of display drivers probably fix the problem. Check the nvidia site and see if there is support for this problem. The only other thing i could think of is that your ram isnt working properly. I also do know that the nvidia drivers for the 8k series are having problems but nvidia is constantly releaseing new ones so try keeping up to date on that
