Hey all, first off this is my system specs..

XFX 680i LT mobo
2x XFX 8600gts XXX edition GPU's 730MHz
2GB OCZ PC6400 800MHz
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13MHz
250GB Western Digital SATA

I have been running nvidia driver 158.27Y (came with cards) with no problem! I wanted to check out the new TimeShift demo so I had to install version 163.71. After about ten minutes of playing my whole system locks up solid! (like I have it on pause) This happens with any game I play with those drivers! If I roll them back to 158.27Y no problems???? And alot of games need the new drivers! any ideas on what it could be ????

Try the drivers posted here: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_timeshift_downloads.html

Hmm, could be a random driver conflict, which can be a pain but does happen. Does the demo not work with the previous driver?

no the demo needs the new drivers. If you don't install them all you get is a black screen!

You if you can play a game for an hour before your computer locks up their might be a problem else where.

Try playing a game for more than one hour with just one 8600GTS installed.

I have tried with only one 8600gts, I have tried both 8600gts! I can play just fine with both single or SLI as long as I have drivers
158.27Y... I'm don't want to but, my last resort is a full reinstall.

If drivers v158.27 work fine then why not just use those ones?

well I wish i could use just those, but a lot of new games like TimeShift and Crysis need the newest drivers. I've tried bypassing this and only got sound and black screen.

I can't seem too get a resolution for my problem, Even opened a ticket with XFX, but got no real help! same trouble shooting tips. I.E. try both GPU's separate, memory, bios P06, reinstall, just no real fix!!! XFX let me down :frown:

Lo,

Download the 169.04 ForceWare BETA drivers from nVIDA and give them a go.

They have been optimised for Crysis and Timeshift. The fact that you could play for an hour hints at your system overheating at some point. Run your case open with a standard household fan blowing onto the harware and see for how long you can keep playing. The SLI setups get extremely hot and without enough ventilation the ambient temps in the box could rise to levels where you get hardware failure resulting in crashes. If you can play for an extended period of time with the fan in place you can pretty much write it off to heat in your box.

Agreed, let us know how that turns out. It can provide for a frustrating enviornment with new betas for games teamed with beta drivers, so I feel your pain.
