Ok well since i have 4 cores im runninng 4 folding@home programs. So now this takes my cpu to 100% and raises my temp by a good amount. I was just wondering if some people would consider this stress testing or not.

Putting stress on a CPU is applying a full load onto it so I would say yes but I would rather use Orthos, Prime95 or TAT for stress testing.

I guess it is "kind-of" a Stress-Test for the CPU, but it's not the perfect one, as it doesn't take the full potential of the CPU and doesn't really test everything (CPU and RAM) at FULL STRESS.
Like werty said, you'll be better off with running Orthos, Prime95 and/or TAT to make sure your system is stable at FULL STRESS. ;-)
Anyway, GOOD LUCK and it's great to know you can fold now for Bjorn3D team with 4 Cores!!! And it also means that you'll probably be able to complete 15 WUs for this month contest...so, GOOD LUCK in this part as well...:icon_tiphat:
Sorry...gotta go now. ;-)

I do use orthos I was just wondering what your opinions are.

I think F@H is good for checking overall system stability... but the program isn't designed for that. It would cause problems for Stanford unless you ensured your computer was always disconnected from the internet, because the moment F@H detects instability it stops and sends a msg reporting the WU failure back to the Folding@home servers and then tries to DL a new work unit.

Well you can actually run stress test through Orthos using the gromacs core, which i think is what F@H runs on, so there you go, you can do 2 in one

Ya F@H does use gromacs core.

It does, however it is not the same. I am not sure if the Gromacs core that is used in Orthos makes use of SSE2 instruction sets or what, but I don't think it does.
Folding@home would show instability that Orthos with Gromacs tests would not.

Maximum heat is attained through Intel's TAT though this does NOT show how stable the system is.
If you are testing for maximum temps then use Intel's TAT as this raises heat levels far above orthos, prime95 and folding@ home.

I highly agree as the load temps you get when this program is running is quite surprising.

Agreed. TAT is great way to test for WORST CASE SCENARIO.
Sorry boys and girls, no one stop solution here.
