This sucks.
You guys were horrible to deal with last month, as evidenced here;

http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18000

And because I despise what I was put through last month, I have been gritting my teeth, and trying to live with the blue screens that I get at least 5 times a week. The windows blue screen always list the culprit as nv4_disp.dll, and most often occur as game is exited, or as windows is shutting down, not during or when starting a game.

I have downgraded from the current most driver set through the last 10 or so more major revisions.
Anything else I can try?

Is it the same problem? Give more details, what OS, what PSU and so on.

You shouldn't be complaining about XFX, if you didn't know they are one of the fastest in doing RMA out of all Graphic Card companies. Some companies take 6weeks-4 months for a RMA.

(I sent a question to ABIT to see if my new processor would work in my MoBo... After 2 weeks I got a E-mail back with a link in it to the processor/MoBo compatibility sheet, that didn't even have my processor on the list...)

Did you ever get your replacement card from XFX? If not post another message in your ticket. It never hurts to be a bit pushy so they don't forget about you.

And I have had graphics card companies cross ship and had the new item before the old one was pulled out of my computer, and had companies unable to cross ship but still have had a replacement in 4 days.
I suggest you hold your companies to higher standards.

It is no use debating their inadequacies on THIS fanboy forum.

As far as the problem is concerned, No this is not the same issue.
The old problem was complete and utter graphical corruption. See other thread.
This is blue screen crashes pointing to nv4_disp.dll.
This is on an XP box, and it is not a PSU issue.

It's either the card or the drivers, and since I have tried 10+ driver sets in the last few weeks, with little change, that only leaves one option.
I'm asking what else I should do before opening the can of worms that is an XFX support ticket.

While we dont offer cross shipments usually (still in the works) we do make certain exceptions to some of the rules if a customer received a faulty replacement video card. Of course if you dont update your ticket and let the support staff know they cant help. As for the nv4_disp.dll this could be caused by a number of problems, however if you have done all the testing possible then let the support staff know and I can see about having them help out in regards to your issue.

I have been dragging my heels on this due to my last experience.
I am curious if under clocking the card may help, but I'm reluctant to do so, because A; You didn't suggest it, and B; running a card at less than capacity means I didn't really get what I paid for.

I have updated ticket #110249 with the following;

I have been trying to get my replacement card from giving my a windows (XP) blue screen error since I have gotten the replacement from you. I have tried about 10 driver sets, and all give blue screen errors on either exiting random 3D applications, or upon windows shutting down. The error always shows nv4_disp.dll as the culprit. I have been using a driver cleaner to make sure the driver sets are uninstalled cleanly, so that the next set is working as it should but the issue remains. I have reinstalled XP, and that did not help. The error is very random. I cannot seem to purposely recreate the error. If exiting a game blue screens my system one time, it may run the next handful of times without trouble. I may start my computer and not even open any 3D applications and still have windows crash (with the nv4_disp.dll error) upon shutting it down. I would estimate my system crashes 5 times per week, and most of those times are when XP is shutting down. I am unable to test this on another system, and I have not tried underclocking the card to see if the errors persist. This system was 100% stable with the last card (other than the graphical corruption) and stable with no corruption with the 6600GT I had in it prior to buying this 7900GS.

Just to clarify, in case it helps narrow the issue: These blue screens only happen when exiting a game, or shutting down windows. And randomly. 90% of the time everything functions like normal. With the game crashes, you might be playing and decide to quit for a bit. You go through the normal game save procedures, maybe get to the main menu, and then hit whatever "quit game" type button you are offered. When it doesn`t crash you would then be presented to the windows desktop - when it does crash you get the BSOD with the nv4_disp.dll. Likewise for the shutdown crashes. Normally, I click on start go to shutdown, and click the shutdown button. Windows goes through the normal shutdown process of saving this, and doing that and the computer then goes silent as everything powers off. It`s just a split second before this power down cycle that the blue screen hits when it happens during XP shutdown. Hope that all makes sense.

Most of us here who have dealt with XFX support, either here or by opening a support ticket have had nothing short of great experiences with them. Patience is a virture ;)

Being kind to people is also a virtue.

And I was more than kind at the onset of this.
Then I was told my card would ship on thursday.
And then told monday that it didn't but would by tuesday.
It finally shipped Thursday, and gave me a tracking number that wasn't right.
I told them the number wasn't right and they (online and over the phone) swore up and down it was. Guess what? It wasn't.

So I called to voice my disappointment, and perhaps hear an "I'm sorry".
I got a "It's not our fault that we weren't able to ship it, it was the shipping companys".

When I am told something I expect people to follow through. It's not rude to expect a company to keep their promises. It's not rude to expect a company that breaks their promises to own up and say "While we had issues with our shipper, we take full responsibility for those issues, and are very sorry that this has happened", instead of the "Not our fault" attitude.

It's also rude to be butting into a tech support thread with non technical support, as well as rude to judge people when you haven't bothered to learn the whole story, or disagree with another person.

So, I appreciate a ton thay XFX looks to be going the extra mile for me THIS TIME around. They may sway my opinion yet. I most certainly hope they do.
