I thought you guys might find this funny or interesting. About a year ago my friend had a pretty good graphics card (cant remember which one). So he was typing a word document when all of a sudden he head a THUNK, he looked in his case and his heat sink fell of his GPU, his ideal temps were at about 75-85 and when he tried runnign guildwars it spiked to 120 in about 2 seconds. I guess there really isnt a point to this story I just thought there might be some people who are curious what happens when your heat sink fall of your GPU.

I am surprised the GPU survived if at all as it should have went "POP!" instantly.

S*it happens I guess.

wow...i guess the fixtures were really bad....i remember when i tried to change my dad's motherboard, i went to take out the processor, and his thermal paste was so crappy that it ripped the processor right out of the socket, without me even unlocking it.

All of the Dell's that we use at work will do that. Not necessarily meaning its crappy thermal paste because AS5 is pretty sticky also. ;) Always make sure to slightly twist the HSF to break the seal.

The stock cooler and paste for my Windsor pulled it out of the socket. I don't like putting a twisting force on a multi-pinned item while also pulling on it, too much a chance for both actions to happen at once. I have pictures.
