Guys,

I wanted to know with the 7950GT AGP 512mb why are there 2 colour boards one blue and one black, whats the difference ?

Also i was checking the forums and i see many people have many problems with there 7950GT AGP, are they built very poorly.

You see i was lucky i already own 7800GS+ (basically its a 7950GT) and its a awesome card, no problems at all (touch wood).

Also i picked up a 7950GT very cheap and already its got problems, ive got to send it back to XFX, i just hope they send me a new replacement cos its totally ruined.

I would be grateful if you could answer my questions above.

Its very common for the color of the PCB to change like some of the 8800 cards were on a black PCB but now on a green. Why they change the color I am not sure, but do know that it does happen and the green pcb 8800 cards are no different in design then the black pcb verion (of course now and then the revision number will be different is say a different brand capacitor or resistor was used).

They are not built poorly, there are just a radical AGP card meant for PCI-E and randomly blow sometimes.

Well thats odd, cos i own the Gainward 7800GS+ (7950GT really) and ive volt modded it to oc at 670core 1520mem and not one problem.

You see it seems like not to be rude XFX tried to make a quick buck by designing a poor board with crap cooling and then you got a company like Gainward which are not as big as XFX but they make great cards with proper cooling solution. I think the reason being is that they want there cards to work under alittle stress so they get fewer RMA's and customers would be happy and come back for more.

What do you all think ?

Never tried Gainward so I honestly cannot compare with them. But yes you are right with this card however although I don't know XFX's intentions but whatever corner was able to be cut was and then some on this card. Everything from the cooling to the capacitors used. All the cheapest of the cheap which is the reason why this card fails on a constant basis. When you get one....baby it....because it will not last very long and the retailers are pulling it from the shelves because of the boatload of RMA's they don't want to have to deal with. I love XFX for their support however and if it was not for them I think I would have went nuts by now. I am sure XFX learned a pretty good lesson on this card however. Got a good black eye from it and I am sure we will see better products from them in the future.

Gainward has an awesome reputation, unfortunately people like you and I cannot buy them, since they only sell in Europe and Asia. Maybe if you have a good friend in the Old World lol.
