I finally got rid of my AGP 7950GT and bought a PCI-E 7950GT(not the passively cooled one), my load temps are around 83-86C. The card is not artifacting or anything, but I still feel like that is pretty hot, am I wrong???

Yaa, sounds hot to me, anything under 100 is "safe" though.

It is a bit warm but as its already been pointed out to you, the temps are not too hot. Try removing the case cover, if the temps drop they you may want to look into adjusting your system cooling.

Tie off cables neatly, make sure the graphic card fan has room to blow and make sure you have enough system fans.

I have plenty of system cooling, also made sure nothing was blocking the fan. It runs at those temps with no artifacts, even when overclocked, so I guess I won't worry about it then, thanks.

the entire series runs hot, my old 7950 was running at 98C(load) last time I checked it, when i rebooted my PC, the card was dead

Well, the stock heatsink fans suck, hell there isn't even any heatsinks on the VRAM, oh well this is only a temp card.

Reason for the high temps could be that a thermal pad is used. My 7900GT used a hard pink thermal pad which gave me an idle temp in the 70s°C and a load in the 80s°C.

remove the pad and your card is dead since you can't really replace the cooler
I have seen a XFX 7950GT AGP with a Zalman VF900 but the bridge chip also had a nonstandard heatsink on it so, oh well

the main reasons these cards blow in my opinion are overheating ram, and capacitors and the PCIE to AGP bridge overheating
