Anyone heard about this benchmark or try it out yet? I think I'll give it a try.

Move over 3dMark: New OpenGL-based 3D benchmark

A new 3D benchmark (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/10/3d-benchmark-appears) focusing on lighting effects and performance, aptly dubbed Lightsmark, has been released (http://dee.cz/lightsmark/) for free by Czech software author Stepan Hrbek. In the end it is still an artificial benchmark, but they still have a place in your software toolbox.

Unlike 3DMark and other complex benchmarks, this one offers quite good looks and performance to lower and more affordable segment of 3D market. Thanks to efficiency of OpenGL 2.0, a flyby scene featuring global illumination and penumbra shadows can run on mid-class hardware.

I gave it a run and thought to myself that this is one outdated benchmark and you'll see why when you run it.

After that I remembered this:
"Unlike 3DMark and other complex benchmarks, this one offers quite good looks and performance to lower and more affordable segment of 3D market. Thanks to efficiency of OpenGL 2.0, a flyby scene featuring global illumination and penumbra shadows can run on mid-class hardware."

Outdated benchmark programs are irrelevant to what the market offers now. That's like someone taking the latest and greatest graphics card and using the classic game Alien vs. Predator to benchmark it's performance. Who gives a crap, it's old!

Although I must admit, it does look pretty nice.

Looking good!

I might give it a try as well...;-)

Thanks for the info, werty! :icon_tiphat:

Actually, I'm already downloading it at the moment. I'll keep you all updated with the score I'll get, as soon as I'll run it (hopefully later on today, when I'll get home from work, or tomorrow)...;-)

I think maybe it's the fact that he has only 1GB of RAM...:frown:

Yeah with a 8800GTS, it should score anywhere near 450-500 but my 1GB value ram & Pentium D running @ 90C are holding the card back. :( What to do, i'll have to wait.

Sush, what resolution was that at?

This is what I got at 19x12

Just ran at 12x10 and only scored 285...hmm...that can't all be Vista64...something is going on somewhere...have to have a look at that when I get time.

Already downloaded it but haven't tried it yet, as I'm quite busy at work right now. :frown:

I'll probably test in over the weekend...;-)

I wouldnt say its your cpu. In 3dmark my ram made more of a difference. When i get my other HD back ill test this out again using SLI 7950GTs.

I wouldnt put too much (cant find the word) into this benchmark. its highly CPU dependent.

sushrukh
03-16-2008, 08:36 PM
I also think, it's more dependant on CPU.The previous score of 700+ (using a Quad) just proved that.

That and he is running two 8800 Ultra video cards in SLI.
