here are the temps of my PC. i did some insane cooling on all my parts, AIR cooling that is.
open the window for a nice chilly -2C breeze from the outside to cool my computer!
only left it open for like 10-15 mins, i couldnt feel my fingers/toes!
goodspeed wasnt so successful, his PD was just on fire, idled at 40C @ 4ghz with 1.43 volts, and we got it up to 4.4ghz (30sec superpi) and idled at 45 @ 1.46v. that thing just doesnt wana stay cool!!!!

if only my mobo could pump out more than 1.5v (stupid board!) i would deff try and hit 3ghz, and clock da poop outa my ram/gpu/CPU!!! damn you asus!!

Do not use outside air at ALL costs.
Think about condensation buddy.
I saw my friend fry his new setup like that.
I told him not to do it.
He didnt want to listen to me and it happened after a few days.
he`s truman he comes here everyonce in a while.
I tell you.
Why do you think a phase change cooling needs some sealant.
So that its air tight and no condensation is made into your computer.

:O
So its bad even for 10-15 mins?
I didnt feel any moisture in the air, i just felt dry cold
But thanks! i wont do it nextime

Its not really the fact that the air has moisture or not.
Its more cold air meets hot air = droplets of water.

always remeber outside air=BAD either its too hot lol or your gonna condensate. now dont get me wrong here, cracking the window to keep the room cool aint a bad idea but opening up everyone wide in the dead of winter to get an icey temp aint too smart.
HELL it aint as stupid as my one budday who wanted to pipe in air from outside with a flexi dryer hose to his CPU cooler.
Imagine that!! nice blue dryer vent hose modded out the F-in window!!! ROFL!!!!

EXACTLY!!! What you're describing IS Condensation! If cold air from the outside "meets" the hot air from inside the room, dew drops may be created and thus can make a short in your mobo/cpu...so be careful! ;-)

I cooled down my rig considerably today after an upgrade. Since I hadn't OCed or put extremely hot running parts in the case stock, I left the case unmodded for the most part. My Northwood CPU runs pretty cool even with the stock cooler but when I swapped out my X800XT for a X1950 Pro the other day, the ambient temps went up noticably as the new GPU runs much hotter.
I decided now was the time to take the advice of the salesmen that sold me the rig 3 yrs ago and mod the case for better cooling, though part of this mod was done right after purchasing the system and I even impressed the guys at the store with my idea. My mod idea was replacing the coarse foam filter over the two front fans with mosquito netting which resulted in better air flow and dust filtering. OK, it's easy and simple yes, but effective. Today I got out the old compound tin snips and cut out the aluminum grilles over the case fans.
http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/9743/kt424grillesfrtxy0.th.jpg (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kt424grillesfrtxy0.jpg)http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/5766/kt424grillerfu4.th.jpg (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kt424grillerfu4.jpg)
This alone resulted in noticably better airflow the difference of which I could actually feel coming out the rear of the case, but I wasn't done.
After unsuccessfully trying to check the GPU temp and fan speed with ATI Tray Tools (w/ plugin), Riva Tuner, and Speedfan, I finally had success with ATI Tool. With ATI Tool I was able to monitor and log GPU temps and fan speeds (though only in percentages). Despite not seeing the RPMs I was quite satisfied.
I was not happy at all with the stock settings in ATI Tool after running it's artifact test and logging temps in the Crysis demo. The fan was only running at about 64% even when the GPU topped out at 75C. Here is the stock settings ATI Tool showed for fan speed thresholds and my tweaked settings.
http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/6089/gpufanstockgf7.th.png (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gpufanstockgf7.png)http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/237/gpufantweakhy2.th.jpg (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gpufantweakhy2.jpg)
The result is 3C cooler at idle and 8C cooler at load and the fan now runs at 91% at 65C reserving 100% for longer gaming sessions that might net 70C or more occaisionally. The fan is not noticably noisy either and ramps up rather subtly. I highly recommend this kind of case mod and ATI Tool for anyone using a case with such grilles/fans and ATI cards.
Don't cool yourself, cool your case. The more affordably the better.;-)

I am glad that you pointed this out. I was thinking of ducting air from the cavity wall into one of the case fans. I can deffo see your point!
Thanks.

Lol and here i thought cold air meeting warm air means tornados!! (True, but in a much BIGGER sense)

with no OC? its a 3.2ghz PD @ 4ghz, and after our lapping session (he was successful) he got his idle lower and is at 4.4, he says its stable but god knows, ill check when im at his house

Usualy P4s are hotter dude. Load around the 60c mark.

Well i stand corrected, seems your friends cpu is below average.

My 2.8Ghz with stock cooler would get to 62c (no OC)... Idle at like 49...
My 3.4 OC to 3.7 Idle at 41c, max at 61c.

Well you also have an Extreme Edition and if i remember correctly dont the 478 P4s run hotter than the 775s? Or was it the Prescott 6** series that ran the hottest? My exs family machine had a 540 in it i believe (One that was HT, 3.0ghz, and had like 1mb cache) and that sucker was HOT! I still have the insanely huge Cooler Master heatsink for it.

P4 in general are just a hot chip.

My Pentium M runs pretty hot too :/ Sometimes i hate folding with it.

My chip runs around 40c idle and 51c load, not too bad compared to that jet engine they call stock.

P4 630-OC@3.80mhz?! I guess if you underclock a CPU like that it runs cool.

Yeah I was looking at that as well. I wonder what voltages you use to get it that low! Like .3 or something.

Wait but 3.8ghz is 800mhz over stock? I dont think hes underclocked his CPU Miker.

He is at 3.8mhz, not 3.8Ghz, read his SIG. Crazy unclock man!

Not really if it is running on the temps he mentioned here:

may i ask what is "air cooling?"

Sorry about the typo:ahhhhh:.....I never noticed it......s/b 3.80ghz.
I already changed it.

It's actually my first overclock. I never touched the voltage.....too afraid.

Air people know nothing of condensation.
See sig. Mine has frost.
