I just finished working on my website and want to get some feedback from users. The website isn't 100% finished as it still does have some minor bugs in the script and does need some redesigning looks wise. This will give you guys just a basic idea of how the final product will be. :)

To use the site all you do is take a long url (like this):
http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=2&name=Backup-Devices-Media

Paste it into the Go! box. Click go and it should convert it into something like this:
www.url-press.com/?265836

Basically, it takes long url's and makes them into short urls. It makes it easier to send them in emails and what not. I know this is similiar to what Tinyurl has to offer but I thought I would make something more user friendly.

Any feedback is appreciated. I'd also appreciate feedback on what you'd like to see changed in the site.

Thanks in advance guys! :icon_tiphat:

Anybody?

lol. I know, I'm being impatient. I spent a decent time working on the site and I'm anxious to know what people think. :icon_tiphat:

Interesting concept.

I'm not being rude so please don't misunderstand me.

What is the purpose for it?
Some e-mail programs like gmail will shorten URLs already.
Is this for commercial purposes or personal use?
Like i want to shoot my dad an email with a link to a cool product but not include the overly long URL?

A geek like me gets it and its useful though an added step. Pitching an idea like this to have it streamlined into e-mail programs is useful.

Thanks for the comments Gonz. It's mainly for personal use. I'll be making a toolbar utilizing it to make it much easier to access without going to the website itself. How does that sound?

I say if you can make a firefox plug in to use this then you just may have a real winner.

I of course am unsure about the complexity of such a task but if you were able to make it so that I could copy the URL from the top of the page OR right click a link within a page to activate the plugin to auto-shorten it for pasting, then I would say HOT DAMN that is easy and useful.

I like the concept. But like Gonz said if you can make this into a fire fox plug in I would definatley use it.:icon_tiphat:

I agree, since in a sense Tinyurl already does this and is a toolbar as well...make it into a FF toolbar/plugin and you should be golden :)

I'll definitely take that into consideration guys. I just need to find someone that is fairly literate when it comes to C++. I might just have to hire someone to do that.

Thanks for the feedback. :icon_tiphat:

Too time consuming. I could hire someone from India and they'll do it for super cheap lol.

you get what you pay for AJ.
just because someone lives somewhere doesn't degrade the value of there skill on the international market.
thus. a good coder in idia will be working for american dollars at american wages.
And probably living a better lifestyle then the american coder.

Hmmm I need to start learning C++ and get better at my java. I plan to be a programmer some day. lol in that case if you still need someone to do when I learn C++ ill do it for you for free. Except that will take me acouple of years so that wouldnt be much help. ;-)

I gave up on software and programming I hated it sooo boring sitting there I had to get my hands on stuff which is why I joined the Air Force as a COmmunications electronics technician :D

Java was easy enough but man C++ was so counter-intuitive

Agreed this is much more Web 2.0

I have little knowlegdge left of C++ from my college days of learning compilers, assembly language, and java.

Would you by any chance be able to design the Firefox plug in? I will pay you of course. I don't know how much knowledge is needed to compile such a feature, though.

Here's a link to what's involved.

Hmm.... never mind. I don't know why I saw C++ in one of those tutorials. Must have been too sleepy.:dielaffin:

Nice update, but I would darken the text colour on the following line:

"E.g. www.Anysite.com/Long-Url"

The lighter type makes it slightly harder to read and gives the impression that you can gloss over it because it doesn't stand out as much as the header graphic.
