View Full Version : Vcore up?

CPU: 3.4GHz Extreme Edition Pentium 4 SL7CH Gallatin (478 Pin)
Stock Vcore: 1.575
At 3.7Ghz and 1.6Vcore I had a random hot reboot. It rebooted, yet never turned off. This was idle in FireFox. It scared me so I backed down to 3.6Ghz and 1.575 Vcore. What should I do next? Should I try to get to 3.7-3.8Ghz? I would go up .025 Vcore at a time, but what should be my max. There is not much info about this processor floating around the web.

I think you asked this question already with some answers given...
Anyhoo, if you CPU overclock is unstable you either have to increase the vCore more or lower your FSB...
You can increase your vCore as high as you want to go...

Well at some point this thing has to go. *poof!*

It won't go "poof" if you have ample cooling and the only thing you need to monitor is your temperatures.
It all depends on how risky you want to be. If 3.6Ghz is stable going to 3.7-3.8Ghz won;t really make a huge different that is worth the risk on upping the vCore even more.
Plain and simple, slowly increase the vCore until its stable and watch your temperatures; thats all. Other than that drop your FSB if your overclock is unstable.

So a hot restart is 100% not enough Vcore? Can't be the northbridge going poof?

nb is a seperate nightmare in its self . if your temps look good keep goin . but also take in that other things may need o be adjusted to gain more or cause instability ...

One day I was messing around with my overclock and I noticed my idle and load temps went up 10-20°C so I thought to myself WTF!?!?. It turned out I accidently set the vCore of my E2140 to 1.8v!!! Good thing it was only for a few minutes.

Wow i would think 1.8v would make a core 2 go poof after a minute or 2.

I think 1.675v would be safe. I have my 1.4V CPU overclocked to 1.5375v so it is 0.1375v more than normal.

Im at 1.6v on a phase change cooler.
I dont want to go much higher personnally.
