Hi guys!

Damn...I started having another problem in Vista, after some time that everything was OK. :frown:

As you know, I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit and yesterday I got a new (chinese) webcam, which is UVC (USB Video Camera) that basically does NOT require any drivers).

Now, I've tested it before on another Vista-based machine at work and it was working flawlessly so I'm pretty sure it IS being supported by Vista.

But...when I plugged it in my PC yesterday, it was detected by the OS and then I got a message that the Device Driver was detected by CANNOT be installed...and the reason was: "Access is Denied"...:jawdrop:

So, I tried plugging my iPod Shuffle, since I've never installed it before on my Desktop (I mainly used it on my XP-based laptop) and again...I got a message that the Device Driver was detected by CANNOT be installed...and the reason was: "Access is Denied"!!! :frown:

So...it seems that for some reason my Vista refuses to allow installation of any new USB Drivers and/or USB-based devices.

I tried going back to an earlier Restore Point without any success.

Now, probably I was having this problem for along time already, but I just found out about it now, so all my recent "Image" backups are suffering from the same problem...:frown:

I'm using only ONE user account under Vista, which has "Administrator" permissions and I also have my UAC turned OFF.

Is there a chance you know what the problem is??? I tried searching for a solution over the internet, but really couldn't find a solution that will work for me...:frown:

If I won't find a solution soon, I guess I'll just have to re-install Vista, but I really don't feel like doing it, so I'm going to try whatever it takes to get rid of this annoying problem/bug.

And NO...I'm not going to give up and go back to XP...

I'm pretty sure it is related somehow to permissions on my Vista, that maybe got corrupted / messed-up somehow...

Investigating it furthermore, I found somewhere that "In Vista, even though you are using an Administrator account, you still run with Standard account privileges. When a program or a action by you tries to run with administrtors rights, you must first give it permission before it is allowed. This is the User Account Control (UAC). The Hidden Real Built-in Administrator Account does not use UAC and is like the one in XP with full rights on your computer."

So I'm going to try and enable that "Hidden Real Built-in Administrator Account" by running the following "command" under the "command prompt" (while running CMD of course, in "As Administrator"):

net user administrator /active:yes

I really hope it'll work, as I'm running out of ideas...:frown:

Any help/advice/suggestions will be appreicated...:icon_tiphat:

With all the problems you have had with Vista zachig, I'm surprised you are sticking with it. I would have dropped it by now if I went through all the problems you went through.

Not sure if you did a google search but I found this although I am not sure if it work 100%:

Good luck with solving your USB problem.

Hehehe... I guess you're right but I'm (sometimes stupidly) stuborn...

Anyway, I DID google around and tried ANY OFFERED solution I could find, but still without success...:frown:

I've already "taken ownership" of files and registry keys and also created "super-duper-administrator" accounts, but none of them enabled me to install my USB Device...:frown:

I think I'm going to give up on this, as right now, it'll be "only" my webcam that is not working...and I guess I don't have a choice but to format and re-install, but guess I'll do it only in a few weeks (or even months), when I'll some more free time, as I'm VERY VERY busy nowadays at work...:frown:

Thanks anyway...:icon_tiphat:

I would go into device manager and delet all the USB hubs and everything else under USB and reboot. Then after the machine finds all the USB stuff try plugging the camera back in.

An 'Access Denied' can also be an issue of temporary files. Sloppy programming and USB firmwares and make for some ****tacular 'create file, delete file, use file' situations, like with early XP's handling of unique (non-storage) USB devices. Its like when you download a file under 'open it when I get it' and then keep the download window up and try to use it a little later after the installation failed or crashed out. it could be dropping/losing/deleting the USB driver before it actually loads it, and I'm sure its just like the USB Mass Storage Device ****ups.

Thanks for the advice Scott, though I'm pretty sure I've already tried it without success. :frown:

And if I remember right, after deleting my all my USB devices from Device Manager, some of them couldn't get installed again...for the same reason: "Acess Denied". :frown:

So...I'm quite lost here, but I'm going to try it anyway, as I've got nothing to lose and beside that, if something goes wrong, I can always go back to my semi-working configuration with the Image Backup I did 2 days ago. ;-)

And like I said, if it won't work, I'll try to find some spare time and just format and reinstall everything from scratch, but I guess I'll only have the time to deal with it in a few weeks from now.

Thanks again and I'll keep you updated...:icon_tiphat:
