Does anyone else have a problem with the SSE instrucitons not loading when an WU runs using core82?

I opened the console and wait until it fully loaded and resumed calculating the steps and then I closed and reopened it but the SSE instructions still don't load. Only solution is to start another WU http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/mad/mad0250.gif

I don't think the cause is an unstable CPU overclock as the other console running on the same machine loads the SSE instrucitons fine but then it is running core81.

Weird, must be that core as I cannot see an overclock having that reaction either.

Not all Folding@home work units use the Gromacs core, you just happened to find a Amber core WU. ;) They don't use SSE instructions because it would only best case provide a 10% performance boost.

What about SSE/3D-Now/Altivec support?

Currently, SSE and SSE2 are not supported. AMBER is run in double precision so SSE would not help. SSE2 could help, but would not provide a significant speed increase. Our first goal was to get AMBER running stably and we will then try to further tweak optimizations with SSE2. However, we expect to gain only 10% speed increase.

About half of mine are now Amber core WU's too. Since they are all currently testing the same type of simulation, they are all going pretty fast at about 7 min per 1%. The 3906 and 3907 projects are worth 310 points or so.

The rest of the Amber core FAQ is here for those that are interested: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/AMBER.html

I never realized that the Amber cores go by pretty quick which is great http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0158.gif
