Buy the hardware sign up for an account. depending what sort of option you want it can cost upwards of 15 dollars a month for your own skypein/skypeout account with a ## someone else can call you on. then there is the .09 cents a minute you pay to call russia and such.
It does cost a we bit of cash a month to have full telephone service threw skype but you can get a free skype account and chat online with anyone else on your skype list online using skype certified hardware. all in all the free service is like MSN "call a contact" using better hardware and VOIP.

Skypeout is a service that for one monthly fee you can call any telephone line you want, skype in assigns you a number that can be called by any other type/sort of telephone in the world.

exactly! :) lol kinda complicated for a darn phone! my aunt in boston has it though to call all us up here in the north, saves her a bundle on long distance she says and seeing as its on her laptop her phone can go anywhere her PC can with a wireless connection!
I.E. although she lives in buffalo she works in washington D.C. for a major software firm, but can still call me from her home phone sitting in her office in D.C.

There's also Gizmo. They have this project going on where you can make free landline calls with the software. There are certain conditions but it might be worth a shot: http://www.gizmoproject.com/learnmore-allcallsfree.html

OMG, I love the software, I use it to prank call places around the U.S. which is no charge, and all the caller ID says is "1234567890". Try it for prank calling.

That's not very nice to prank call. Bad boy. ;-)
And no charge? IRC it cost for land calls unless you speaking about calling other Skype users.

So is it possible to make a free, international call with programs like Gizmo, Ventrilo, and Teamspeak. Even an hour or two of free calling would be worth it. I just want to make one or two without having to pay for it :). Do any of those three services or any other VOIP program provide a free trial or free service to that effect?
