There is a local school right now that is having a virus problem but there computer guy is on vacation and they can't get a hold of him. I am unsure if the computer is loading windows xp through the hard drive or the network but i was wondering if there was anyway i could bruteforce hack the password through a boot disc because non of the teachers or staff have enough rights to install any programs.

Knowledge is free. Just don't use this for anything bad.

Don't worry i am not that evil now days you really can't walk into a school campus without anyone noticing i had security called on me once but they let me in knew i was coming but the teachers didn't and got paranoid. But now i am known more them some of the staff.
Thanks for the link.
Anyone have anything else for me id rather have everything with me just in case because its a 15min drive there so id rather not have to drive back home to try something else.

If it is Windows based OPH Crack is Bootable, and will tell you the password of all the users, and their level of Power:Admin, Guest etc. etc.

You could always try to log in with safe mode and run some apps from there.

Unplug the network cable and if it boots then you know its form the harddrive. Also just go in with Hirens Boot cd and you should be set.

Its a school. I doubt they've come up on network booting.
For that matter its probably a mac.

You might be surprised nowadays. When I took my computer science classes in high school (almost ten years ago now!) it was done on Mac's, but my class right down the hall was Novell Networking and it was all done on PC's, along with my multimedia class, all PC's as well.

Shouldn't someone on the teaching faculty have access to the computers? Or least the password to grant someone else access other then the computer guy? That's not very good planning on anyone's part. Case in point to your current situation. :?

You have ot realize most school ITs dont know their ass from a hole in the ground. And most schools use the Novell networking now too. My small school does and i wsa easily able to get into anything because of it :D

I've been out of school for a while now, but I mean, shouldn't there be a hard copy somewhere just for this type of situation? Common sense says yes, but who knows now-a-days (wow, that made me sound old :P)
In any case, I hope that your school can get ahold of their computer guy raiders ;)

The ******* won't answer his phone i guess he takes his vacation to heart. They were going to hire me but i had school obligations at the time. So far they have been hating him since day 1, he is lazy and never really gets anything done. Nothing i try seems to be working, looks like we will have to wait for him, maybe i should hint they should have more then 1 person their.

That's not because of Novell, that's because not very many people know how to set it up properly.

Talking about novell... I think my school's all windows 98 computers have that too. On a laptop too. It is really annoying though. Whenever we use the laptop... sometimes it won't hook the laptop to the server thingy or whatever and you gotta reboot.
