I have an XFX 8600GT with factory Zalman cooler, and this thing spins at 100% all the time. Even if I set nTune or RivaTuner to 25% duty cycle, it spins at 100%. The monitor says 25%, but the fan still spins at full speed. It is as loud or louder than my cd/dvd drive. I hardly play games, so this is unacceptable. Could the card be bad? This is a new computer and I don't have anything to replace it with.

That is a rather new design for that video card. Let me get my hands on one tomorrow and find out some details, then I will get back with you.

I found out, why, your video card uses a 2 pin to power the fan and not a 3 pin. A 3 pin allows you to change the fan speed, not with a 2 pin, 2 pin's always just blow at full force.

He is correct, I have been playing around with a few of them and it does not look like you can adjust the fan speed.

Weird, the forum didn't norify me of the new post. Good thing I checked in. I thought the 3-wire was only for RPM monitoring, and that speed control was achieved by lowering the voltage to the fan which only requires two wires.
In any case, how can I quiet this thing down? Does XFX make some sort of knob that I could put between the card and the fan to control speed?

Nope... umm you can try and google for a 2pin fan knob.
