Hello!

Just another freezing problem that can't be solved...
I'm 95% sure it's an old nforce3 + AGP + GF + DirectX compatibility issue, that NVidia hasn't been able to solve since GF6800 times. There're some users, that are claimng they get BSOD's informing that graphic driver stuck in an infinite loop - in my case:there are only 'clean' freezes. Had to reset manually.

My question is simple:
@XFX support: did your team found a solution for that problem? Please, is there any chance to inform NVidia that the problem still exists? (there is related topic on nvidia's forum, 3 years old. No solution. It's a bit unfair...)

@all
This problem seems to be quite common for nforce3 based systems. Have I buy a VIA based motherboad to solve that problem?

OK. Time for details:
I bought XFX card some months ago, as it appear that my old one (r9600 pro) was not Bioshock compatibile. Luckilly everything was almost fine (almost - Bioshock was generating some BSOD's but it's a known problem). But soon I found out that many other games are simply freezing my computer.
Just after few minutes of play.
I've been digging google for some time and found no solution. Some suggested ideas, (from XFX support too) simple can't help.

It's no matter if I:
- start with a fresh Windows Xp install
- try to run with: minimal set, newest, oldest, most stable drivers/directX for: mobo/GPU/CPU
- try to: downclock / overclock CPU/GPU/Memory
- set AGP: x4, x8, FW OFF, combine writes off, choose 65,66,67 MHz
- alter voltages for: AGP,CPU,DDR
- delete GART driver and run carg in PCI mode
- disable DEP, PAE
- set Paged Memory size to minimum, maximum
- choose minimal in game quality settings and resolution

On the other hand:
- RAM passes all tests
- CPU is stable
- I repleced GPU's cooling device: now it has only 44C in stress.
- there's no IRQ or driver problem
- dxdiags shows no problems

I always get freeze and sound goes loop.... There's no BSODs and no aditional info. I'm preety sure that this is not the card failure, so I don't want to RMA it. (just to find a solution...:)) Freezes seems not to be random: i have 95% chances that computer will hang in 5s of the second test in the 3d Mark 2005. (and later in 14, 18, 28... not between!)
Apps such as:
- Civilization IV - crashes very often. But gets more stable if autosave option is disabled
- Disiciplies 2 - it can crash too, but sometimes it is able to recover!

My system specs:
Motherboard: GA - K8NS, nforce3 - 250, AGPx8
CPU: A3000 64 Venice
RAM: 2x512MB Kingston, PC3200, Cl 2,5
PSU: Corsair 450W (12V - 28A)
HDD: Segate 250GB, SATA

Have you tried another video card in your pc?

Yes - I return to my old ATI cards: r9100 and r9600pro. They run stable. (Civ IV is sometimes falling to the desktop - but it's also a known ingame bug). Unfornatelly I'm not able to test 7600GT in other machine, very few peopple left now with AGP...:grin:

One more info:
- tried with different motherboards bioses: F13 and F19

What drivers have you tried using? Try using the 84.21 driver as this is one of my favorites for systems having issues:

@mivanx77
No, I haven't. None of my friends have AGP x8/x4 based computer. (either pci-e or older hardware with agp x4/x2). That's why I'm going to buy MB with VIA chipset, (~40$ - not expensive).
Google says there's no so much (freeze) problems with VIA Kt880. 606 answers for VIA, 46000 for nforce-3 250....

@xfxSupport
nForce 93.71 driver is the lowest version I'm able to install. 84.21 ends with error message, that there's no suitable driver for my hardware.

My XFX card number is: PV-T73A-UDF3. It comes with B1 revision of the G73 chip. Maybe that's the cause of 84.21 driver needs...
