Are the 8600 gts xxx and regular gts compatable?

XXX is overclocked, other then that they are the same card. XXX for that little extra money you get a nice OC, I would defiantly get a XXX.

Are you talking about SLI?
For SLI you need the same card, same BIOS, same clockspeeds. You would have to underclock the XXX or overclock the regular card.

It would be better to get the same card though. 2 different ones will make it a lot harder. Plus SLI 8600s is just stupid, get one 8800GT, it is 5x better at same price. SLI is 1.1-1.3x faster then a single card.

True but i already have a 8600 gts xxx and i didnt wanna go and spend much more on this system. so it would be more to buy a 8800 gt

You are better off getting a 8800GT 512MB or 88--GTS 512MB.
You can mix and match brands when running SLI as long as both video cards share the core.
Eample: 8600GTS and 8600GTS; 8600GT and 8600GTS won't work in SLI.

But in the even you do get another 8600GTS video card the answer to your question is YES, the XXX version and stock version of the 8600GTS are compatible in SLI. Once you enable SLI in the NVIDIA control panel it will then automatically slow the XXX version down to match the speed of the stock version.
