P4 1.8Ghz....Using it as a server. Runs but not the quickest thing in the world that's for sure. Never installed XP on anything less.

The worst pc that i put XP on was PIII 550mhz 192mb ram 10gb disk. It worked ok but then something died and it wasn't worth fixing it anymore, that was around 6 months ago. I also had one PIII 700mhz 256mb with xp until last month.

You cant put XP on anything less than a 233mhz i believe. And, ive put one on a 233 with 128mb of ram. Ran pretty smooth actualy for everyday use.

I have a old 900MHz PC with two PC133 slots with one 64MB pc100 lol!

Think how much that PC will scream with 1G of PC133!

srpeters18
01-28-2008, 03:14 AM
Will the board even support 1GB?

Miker
01-28-2008, 04:58 AM
It supports 2 512MB sticks, just not the RARE 1GB ones.

tyle6
01-28-2008, 03:28 PM

Goliath182
01-28-2008, 04:01 PM
I actualy have a board that supports 1.5 gigs of PC 133. got that thing loaded with 1.5 gigs too =) its a beast with ram but graphics... not so much. Its got AGP but ive never checked what speed it is i just use the card that i got with it.

Ive had a few PCs ive given away now that I strapped 768mb of SD into. That always seemed to be the magic number with SD. 2x512 was damn expensive and 768 ran just as good:wink:

The slowest machine I've had it on is my Toshiba laptop.

233Mhz P3
2Mb video ram
256mb of 133mhz ram
6gb hdd

My friend beats me and has installed XP on a packard bell. Pentium cpu with 64mb edo ram. :ahhhhh:

01-28-2008, 05:26 PM
Haha, I installed it back in the day when it just came out on a PI 166Mhz 128MB Ram and it was horrible. It was so slow, I don't eve know what to say.

PP Mguire

Soo who alls lieing? Unless you found a way to bypass the minimum requirements check.

peti1212
01-28-2008, 11:31 PM
I am not lying, I tired it out when the beta test was out or whichever the first version was. Did that have a minimum requirement check? I don't know but I was able to install it.

PP Mguire
01-29-2008, 12:09 AM
Hmm idk about that one. But i do know the real one ive tried installing on lower spec machines and it gave me a block saying that this computer dosent meet the minimum specs required.

Xero (1)ne
01-29-2008, 02:31 AM
I know that XP can run stock on 64mb of ram. Idk the speed of CPU it needs or how much disk space it requires. I know that my friend who installed it on the packard bell took like 2 days to do it because it was so slow.

PP Mguire

233 is the lowest you can go.

Goliath182
01-31-2008, 03:13 PM
Ive heard of pcs running it on lower than 233 they just dont work very well at all. Theres even a guy who said he got all the Vista betas to work on a 200mhz cyrix cpu.

PP Mguire
02-01-2008, 12:02 AM
Like i said before, without using some sort of crack to get it to work around the minimum spec requirement.

Goliath182
02-01-2008, 03:49 PM
Im sure its possible just takes time. Time that could be spent doing something much better than making XP run on a old crap computer.

My weakest was Pentium 4 1.7ghz, 256mb ram, 30gb hard drive, cd-ROM, Geforce mx 440 32mb. The best I could do on it was GTA San Andreas. GTA is like the best game that is optimized well on any kind of graphic cards.

pff, my old machine was a celeron 2.4ghz with an MX 440 and some motherboard that I can't even remember the name of. It ran WoW with ~10fps xD

dumdum
02-09-2008, 02:32 AM
haha running wow with 10fps!! that would be a pain!

Andrew1990
02-09-2008, 03:58 AM
Pentium 1 166MHz with 32mb ram and intergrated 1mb video. I can tell you one thing, that was the slowest computer I have ever used wit hXP.

Right now I put XP on my dads laptop which has an AMD K6-2 475MHz and 128mb Ram.

Goliath182
02-09-2008, 04:26 AM
Holy cow dude seriously? a Pentium 1?!? Wow i cant imagine that that must have sucked lol worse than running wow in 10 fps..

Andrew1990
02-09-2008, 05:51 AM
well it really didnt run. It got to the windows main screen then after a while it would lock up. I just put XP on there to test it before I threw that old computer out.

some of these are crazy, the last one ran XP at 7mhz and 20MB ram

I put it on a p2 233 with 64 meg ram, installed it with 192 meg, pulled the 128 meg chip because the guy didn't want to buy it. Ran like a dog but he left with it and didn't have any complaints.

To get it on less than a 233 you can install it on another machine, uninstall all the drivers, swap the hard drive into the sub 233, then run XP repair before you boot. Took like 4 hours on the p2 233 to install so I can't imagine on doing it on a slower machine.

I installed it on an old AMD K6-2 450Mhz with 64MB RAM... it worked... horrible...

I had to go back to win98, and I'm still using that machine... I think that some day I'll buy 256MB RAM but it's hard to get, it's a dimm slot :P hahahaha

of course this is not my main rig, but I keep it because it was my first computer... and still runs, it's a compaq presario desktop

I had an old ThinkPad from the mid 90's I put XP on. It was a P3 333mhz, 64mb of RAM, and 4gb of hard drive space. I think I still have it lying around some where... wonder if it will boot up.

Sometimes is not even this.
We all need time for ourselves and this is a way to kill time when we need to rewind.

486... *Looks up in envy*

Faster then a 286. Windows 1.1 runs ok? So why won't XP load? I put the disk in my 5'25 floppy drive... Won't even read it.

Gaahhh I had the same problem. I thought I was the only one! :jawdrop: I called Microsoft to complain and they hung up on me. So I bought another one and tried again and it still did not work. Had to use a fork to get it out in pieces. So I bought a third one and at the suggestion of another just trimmed the disk down to fit in the 3.5 inch floppy drive. You know what?...it didn't work either. So I will stick with windows 3.1. It runs faster and has less bugs anyway....LMAO
