Ok I am just having to say I hope you all use a good security suite. Being a Tech I work on machines all the time that are infected an messed up.
I am amazed by the suites people use and are still getting their machines messed up.
I see TrendMicro, McAfee, CA and NOD machines messed up the most. So I am just wondering what do you guys use?
Me, new Norton either 360 and moving all machines in network to 2008 soon. Reason being I can monitor all the machine in the network with the new 2008 and make sure the kids are keeping up to date.
Let us know what you use.
And also have SPI hardware firewall.

I like McAfee. I've tried Norton and wasn't very happy with it. My guess would be you're seeing people's computers that like to turn off their protection to get around something, or install something, and forget to turn it back on. Nobody would ever admit that though.

New Norton products are alot better than the old ones. They dropped support for all old OS's and got rid of all the bloatware writing for XP and Vista only.
Old Norton stuff was a resource hog.

I run spybot, and use WOT in my browser, so I never go to a bad site.

I use Norton SystemWorks Premier. It has done me great justice many times over with especially the 'GoBack' function if something gets messed up. But I also have common sense in browsing and that helps a great deal. Never had to format since I first installed my OS.

I use AVG and ad-aware for the basics. but I also have a pretty decent firewall in my 2wire modem. I also like to run F-secure blacklight on all my machines once a month too.

I use bitdefender only, it's enough for me cause i format every 6 months anyway. I don't use common sense when browsing :), this pc is for fun only i have nothing important on it.

Well, I think it is safe to say that no amount of software is going to stop some users from seriously messing up their machines. And them some others will think that because they have the software installed they are good to go. I had to teach my cousin how to actually use the basic anti-virus and anti-spyware tools, because while they kept their AV program up to date their machine still kept getting infected badly.
A little sense will go a long ways... I don't run active scanning anti-spyware, malware, or rootkit apps except occasionally or to check or test something. If using IE I use Spywareblaster to block malicious sites from even being accessed within the browser, and Ad-aware and Spybot S&D are the two scanning programs I sometimes use.
Mainly I simply use a hardware firewall in my router, the OS firewall, and McAfee Enterprise when I am serious about anti-virus. No frills, no nonsense console program with some serious teeth and network controls. It is definitely a far cry from their home user AV software. For other machines I just throw on AVG since it is free, however AVG does give more false-positives than I'd care to have.

I get my choice, I can use McAfee, Norton or Trend-Micro. The Army provides it to all members free, because they don't want somebody infecting a thumb drive at home and taking it to work and putting it on the network.

I use Trend Micro IS 2008. However, I use Firefox with Flashblock, NoScript and Adblock Plus along with common sense, which helps me keep viruses and other malware away.

I use Nod32, Spybot, and Spywareblaster. Kick ass, Haveny had a virus in ages. Nod32 also does not take any resources.

I use those b/c that is what we use at the store I work at, I do a lot of cleaning up of systems. We also use Hi-Jack this, and Kazaabegone which are more of bad processes starting kind of thing, we kill all, we also use CCleaner to clean up the registry, and the system on a whole. I recently read about another free one Threatfire, apparently it works with your AV, so I am kinda testing it out now and will tell my boss how it does once I am done testing it. I also have an IPCOP Firewall on an old p3 POS machine, which helps, I can also keep tabs on my younger siblings to make sure they are browsing safe sites ONLY.

Nod and some common sense and haven't had a problem in years. It seem though no matter what combinations of security i give people they still get infected. So no amount of software or hardware can stop stupidity. For a while i had someone who would call me weekly and needed windows reinstalled constantly.

I use nothing. My server has Avast on it but i only run it when i need to scan something. My main PC has nothing, and i have all firewalls disabled. Simple reason why, smart browsing/downloading. And, if somebody wants to hack me go for it. Youll get nothing but maybe my Myspace password.....big whoop  I can catch spyware by just looking at my network activity. If its doing something when im not telling it to then i cntrl+alt+delete to see whos running. If somethings there that dosent need to be i delete it from the registry, end the task, restart into safemode, and then delete it from w/e HDD its on. Done. But i havent had to do that since the last LAN i hosted a while back cause somebody else was infected. Luckily, i didnt have a server then.

Generally I use AVG pro, Windows Defender, and Router Nat firewall. I also keep clean ghost copies of each machine on disconnected hard drives. I also keep a bench machine so when I wander into questionable places if any thing gets hit it's an old p3 500 20 gig sacrificial lamb. That's mostly used for downloads like game mods, bencher's and stuff. On average the Ghost copies take about 10 minutes to restore and save many headaches.

I haven't used anything on my Gaming machine for about 6months now, just because despite the fact I had stuff installed in the past, every sunday when I would run my weekly scan, nothin would show up
