Hi there, most of the information is in the ticket conversations I've had, but I will briefly explain the problem.

Normally within 10 minutes of any graphically intensive game (such as half life 2 in this case) the card seems to simply die, and the monitor hits a black screen and the audio starts to loop, then I will have to hold the power button down to reboot to get back to windows.

The problem is similar, if not identical to these two cases:

The latest response from support seems to suggest it's an issue with voltage regulation?

"it may help to let us know figures for GPU, CPU, mainboard under load."

Where can i find these figures? thanks, Daniel

Your core should be 1.4V and im not to sure on the memory voltage. YOu can check both of these with a meter on the back of the card.

This is a link to how to "volt mod" your 7800gt i dont think thats going to help you but in the diagrams the memory and core voltage read points are clearly labeled. If you can get your hand on a volt meter you will be able to test your cards volatge using those4 points.
Dont know how much help this will be but i though i would throw it out there

Another good way to know if the video card is related to your issues is if you can test it in another system or test a similar video card in your system. Is this possible? Let me know and I can shoot and email to the Europe support team.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply

I have already tried the card in another system:

[JAMES - 2007/09/18] Hi, thanks for your message, sorry to hear our previous advice has not helped. can you try the card on a friends system if possible and see if the card behaves the same way, and let us know how this goes. kind regards. james

[daniel - 2008/01/29] Hi, its been a couple months because I have been busy, but I have tried in the card in another system (with a k8 triton gigabyte motherboard, mine is a asus-a8n-premium) and experienced the same crashes (monitor goes black, sound loops, need to reboot by holding the power button) not sure what else there is I can do. Thanks, Dan

and since then I have tried an 8500gs (or gt, forget which one) on my machine and it worked just fine.

thanks. Dan

Thanks for the heads up, I will send an email over to the Europe support team to ensure they are aware of this.
