He has the same motherboard? What chipset does your motherboard use? Sounds like the video card is at least working correctly as it functions in your buddies system.

It could be that because the Gigabyte GA-VM900M (http://www.gigabyte.in/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2407) motherboard uses a VIA chipest.

Update MoBo BIOS, or get the "Special" graphic BIOS from XFX Support.

Make a support ticket over at XFXforce.com requesting an updated BIOS for users who have VIA based motherboards and then post your ticket number here so your issue is sped up.

We are currently working on a BIOS for the 8800GS but it is not ready yet. Keep in mind the BIOS is not a fix, but simply a work around as the problem lies with the motherboard. I recommend you contact your motherboard manufacture to see if they have an actual fix at this point. If for any reason they do not have one, we will let you know as soon as a work around is completed.

XFXSupport is out at the moment, you didn't save your last BIOS?

I refer to the bios 'patch' for the xfx vga 8800gs .. that make boot ok the system with the via p4m900 chipset.

Wow, I was confused in that last post.
There is no BIOS work around at the moment for the 8800GS, your only 2 options are to contact the Mobo manufacturer and ask for a good BIOS for the Mobo, or get a official Mobo that works with PCI-e 2.0. (Most PCI-e 1 Mobos work with a 2.0 card.)

Hi
I am new to the forums and I am having a similar problem with a twist. I have been searching all over to find someone with similar problems. Here is my story(sorry if it is long winded):
I just got a new 8800gs (PV-T88S-FDD4) to replace my older 6600GT (pv-T43G-UDF3)
My mother board is an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum MS-7125 Ver 1. with most recent bios. I believe the chipsets are all Nvida nForce 4 based.
I removed the old 6600GT from the PCIe x16 slot and put in the new 8800GS, and the computer did not POST. I have a diagnostic LED Bracket which indicates that it gets to checking the motherboard memory but it just hangs there. PCIe power connector is connected (just in case you ask)
Here is where it gets different: my mobo has 2 other PCIe slots, 1x and 4x (though 4x is really only a 2x according to user guide). The 4x slot is open ended and can take larger cards: the extra channels just won't be connected. After browsing for a couple of hours I read somewhere that someone in troubleshooting put their video card in the 4x ... hmmm...
So I tried that and installed the card in the 4x slot - and the computer booted and came up (console boot messages showed that the card was indeed running at 2x). I removed old drivers, installed 169.32 drivers and things seem ok. FEAR showed a boost in FPS from 20 to 60. I was surprised given I am only running 2 pcie channels.
But I suspect this is not the ideal solution. WinXp (SP2) seems to hang up during booting every other time. I have to reset and then it comes up ok. Half-Life 2 Episode 1 seems buggy. It will load to the menu. If I max out resolution (1600x1050) it almost always crashes when I go to load a previously saved game (3 finger salute doesn't appear to do anything, but it will shut down when I hit my power button). 1280x1024 works more regularly, but still occasionally crashes out when loading a new part of the level.
My support ticket is: 144554
Any ideas? This seems related to the via chipset thing that I have read here and elsewhere, but I don't have a via chipset.
Thanks,
Dave

Hello dioromi, thanks for the message. I`ve been digging around for the bios downgrade and It turns out we only wrote the pci-e 1.0 downgrade bios for the 8800gt models. The 8800gs card came out after this issue turned up and we never got a bios in for it. The engineers may be working on it but it could take some time as this is a bit extra considering all the pci-e 2.0 cards work in all chipset types except via so the fix really should be coming from them. Regards, William.

I have an Abit AN-M2 board, that uses a nforce 630a chipset. I have an 8800gs card which I know works on my old computer (ASUS Nvidia nForce 430MCP), but I just get spinning fans on the new. Is there any bios update to remedy this?
