Well guys and gals, I'm down to folding with only 1 box, having fried my Opteron box along with the router.:explode: Like Lelu (Fifth Element) said...."Big badaboom"

We had a heavy snowstorm and the power went out, so I trudged out to the shed to fire the generator. Fought with it, but finally got it started. Thought everything was cool until my son appeared at the door screaming "SHUT IT OFFFFF!" WTF?, I think. Go into the house and I'm greeted with wisps of smoke coming from various electrical gadgets. Seems the genny was a bit up in the rpms...it was putting 270v into the 220v circuit breaker I was using to backfeed into the house system!
Fortunately, most everything was plugged into surge suppessors. Those selfless little suckers gave their lives saving three computers, three lcd panels, a 42" Panny plasma tv, a 37" Olivia lcd tv, and all the dvd players, surround sound stuff, Dish Network receivers, etc. The losses were 1 old Dish Net receiver that I was going to send back anyway, several power bricks (cable modem, router, Logitech speakers, cell phone charger), the router itself, and my beloved OPTY folding box and, of course, the four self-sacrificing surge suppressors. Oh, and my son's mini-fridge (Damn! I hide my beer from the old woman in there!)
Anyway, I'm down to one folder until I get the router I snagged off fleabay. OPTY is scheduled for autopsy in the morning.

Thanks, sr! I shall return! OPTY probably lost the P/S or mobo...I have 3 P/S's laying around and 939pin mobos are easy to find, so I should be back to 4 folders in about a week.

I would say it was just the PSU that went out. We have power browns ALL the time. All of my electronics are under a UPS and surge protectors ontop of that.

Another storm today. More snow and the obligitory shoveling thereof. I'm moving some firewood to the back deck...just in case. I'm not going to touch the demon:devildance: genny if the lights go out again! Waiting for a break in the weather to fix the damn thing!

Got the new router configured and replaced the P/S in Opty. All four folders are back in business.:shaka:

Sorry to hear about the bad luck.

Glad to hear your back up and running! I use a genny during outages but run it to a power junction box separate from the house power supply. It's handier the other way but I've seen military gennys fry equipment so I went separate from the house supply.

Thanks, Methious! Glad to be back. Since the last storm we got caved the shed roof in, I won't be dealing with the stupid genny till I get damn good 'n ready:rolleyes:

Wow seems like your haven a bit of bad luck lately. Sorry to hear that. Least the PCs still work and so does the secret beer chiller.

Darn good timing there, I just traded a 2 gig set of Mushkin Enhanced ram for a 4 gig set of OCZ Reaper and you just reminded me I have a beer stash in the parts room mini fridge.

Good job of physically detecting my need for a beer! :icon_tiphat:

EDIT: Sorry to hear about the shed! I put mine to close to the house so when they came out to install the sat dish for my internet I had them install it in front of the shed, the microwaves do a nice job of keeping the area clear of falling snow and ice. (Was excited about the beer and lost track sorry)
