I would like for the rest of the month if you all can to open a browser window on the forums and leave it up.

I am wanting to make sure the server can handle the load I am hoping to put on it this year. I am hoping for huge growth as I am signing up more sponsors for contest this week. So if you can just stay logged in as long as you can and lets see if it can handle the load.

Thank you

Scott

Are you sure keeping a window open will test this? Unless you have a refresh timer or script (or flash) running that will hit the server every so many seconds/minutes it won't buy you anything. This is because HTTP is connectionless, meaning, the connection only exists as long as it takes to send the GET request and receive the response from the server.

If you don't have a refresh or script to do this, then I would suggest that you create a page just for this load test. One with a refresh meta tag set for 60 seconds that will just reload the same page.

I tend to leave Opera running since I figured out how to keep it at 0 memory leaks and <1% CPU usage, and it is always full of tabs I was in the middle of working on or replying to... always at least a couple of them for Bjorn3D. :)

Scott, please don't let this forum grow too fast. I have seen it happen so many times.

Getting OT so I'll make this short. Turn off automatic memory/cache management in Opera's Preferences -> History section. The program is over-aggressive and not able to efficiently manage itself. I set it to fixed memory and disk cache sizes manually. That was all it took, the program will still use as much RAM as it needs to operate smoothly. I configured Opera so any previously open tabs are reloaded upon every browser restart and auto-refreshed.

My girlfriend wont let me leave the PC on when we go to bed, too noisey she says. I will leave it signed as much as I can though, hope that helps!

I think the server is pretty well loaded... been catching up on threads and I am able to notice that every so often the server database is pausing to take an extra ~5 seconds before the page starts to load. Then suddenly things start loading within 2-3 seconds again like normal, at least just now.

I have been experiencing the same thing over the past couple of weeks.

I try to keep it open all day an d i ahve not noticed much difference from before. Maybe a bit slower but that could be due to the added traffic here at work due to tax season.

There have been times when the website refuses to load and I have to wait a minute or so and try again. Lost a few posts when this happened. Now I copy before I post just in case it happens again. I have this happen from time to time on my website as well and its because of the stupid Google bots that are pretty aggressive in searching out achieves and forums.

Well the server must be coping pretty good, I haven't noticed anything odd while browsing the forum...or maybe the load's not heavy enough

Pages are opening a bit slower than before just like Kougs has said already.

Interesting info on Opera Kougar. Usually I don't use Opera very much, because of the extensions in Firefox and because I have the Memory leak pretty much under control, but I'll have to try that tip out and see how much of a difference it makes. Opera was always faster as a browser, but last time I used it it had some troubling dealing with certain pages. I can only assume there have been some improvements as far as that goes, but is it still a problem?

Oh, there was also some lag at 11:38 Eastern time.

Would you still like us to leave the browsers open?
