Well rebuilt Mongoose last night. And the motherboard has a very cool option of just browsing the internet without ever going into the OS.
It is a version of Linux built into the ROM. The coolest thing is now you could go to all those nasty sites if you know what I mean and not get your machine infected.
Pretty dang cool.

Here's an article about it, Phoenix is just one of the companies doing it. You'll have to have a special bios in order to use it. I think this is what the original poster was talking about:

I read about that. Definitely a very cool option that should be integrated into other mother boards as well.

Any power savings from booting straight into the Linux side of things?
What about video card drivers and such? If it uses generic drivers to enable the web browsing does this mean your video card is largely dormant?
It COULD mean pretty good power savings but I have a feeling it may be little if any.

Good way to get a nasty virus stuck in your bios.

Very cool, nice to hear that it works nicely. The motherboard that I am getting is suppose to have the same feature on it. It is a ASUS P5E3 WS Professional motherboard. :)

Seems to me the main advantage is that it will protect your identity cause any website these days can scrape your computer for information through IE - Microsoft should really be sued for not protecting people's identity imo!
