NCIX was selling the Galaxy 8800GT for $189.99(after $40 rebate) so I pushed the button and ordered one last night

I also ordered a Saitek Eclipse 2 keyboard for $19.99 and used my rewards points to get free shipping and two 120mm Yate Loon fans.

Good news Slug. Now you can get rid of your 7600GT. :) But why there's two PCI-E power inputs in the picture ? Generally 8800GT does have one right ? Anyways, I'll compete against you ( in Benchmarks obviously  ) when i'll have my 8800GT. :) Waiting for some pics when you get it in your hand. :)

With that HS good luck getting SLI to work.

This is the only 8800GT that I've seen that has 2 6pin pci-e power connectors. Not sure why it needs 2.

I saw it over on NCIX but didn't notice the 2-6 pin pcie, first time I've seen it on an 8800gt, if you find out why it's got two keep us posted.

I read somewhere that the reason it requires 2 power connectors is that it provides power to the memory and the GPU separately due to their funky power design. Which i guess is suppose to provide cleaner power for higher overclocks but that remains to be proven.

This might be why...?

Oh yes lets give the memory extra volts and OC when its not even being cooled. Cause that sounds real smart. Good one Galaxy.

That wont' be a problem. Why would you think you can't run two in SLI Miker? Its a dualslot video card just like any other dualslot video card.

That HS sticks up over the SLI connector.

Is it true that this card only has 1 year warranty?

Yep, you get what you pay for basically.

If that was an XFX or EVGA branded 8800GT, I would all over that like a fat kid in a candy store.

EDIT: too bad you didn't wait until tonight when NCIX put up their latest sale:
BFG GeForce 8800GT OC 512MB (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=26781&promoid=1088) - $198.88

Not an issue, I have a P35 board.
My order shipped this afternoon.

Great buy slugbug. Hopefully you'll post up some opinions/benchies on this bad boy. I was looking at the Galaxy cards, but being unsure of the brand, I just let it pass. I'd like a more "real world opinion" before getting one of these, so your opinion would be most valuable. ;)

It should arrive sometime next week.
The technical reason behind the two power cables is that the card uses 6 phase power.

edit Feb 12th: Card arrived today and I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Thats a pretty good 3Dmark score. I scored 11303 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5314584) with my 8800GT.. but of course my CPU is slower.

Still a nice score though man, gratz on the nice new card!

Congrats Slugbug! Looks like a great card. :)

This is the only 8800GT that I've seen that has 2 6pin pci-e power connectors. Not sure why it needs 2.

ZOTAC also sells a specific 8800GT with two PCIe power connectors... they were marketing that card specifically for extreme overclockers though, I had thought.

Also, the warranty should be 3 years, not 1.

Graphic Accelerator Cards (VGA)
o All graphic cards carry a 3 year limited warranty (First 2 years parts & labor, 3rd year parts only)

I wonder if the Zotac card has the voltage bump jumper like this one has.
I'll need to pick up some ram sinks before I attempt to overclock this card much.

Hm, so it uses a physical jumper to change the voltages? Have you tried Gigabyte's GamerHUD videocard utility yet, the one Miles used in his Gigabyte 8800GT review?

slugbug
02-23-2008, 02:39 AM
Yes it has a physical jumper on it.
Not sure if GamerHUD would work with a non Gigabyte card. It's not available for download anyway, so I'll never know.

Not too shabby, slugbug. Have you done any further testsing/OC'ing on the card?

Not yet no.

How far can you OC this card to?

Exilon

800mhz core if you raise the voltage to 1.2v.

I used ATI Tool and overclocked it to 650 core/1000 memory. Ran 3dmark06 and it scored worse that at stock speed. Tried the "find max core" in ati tool and it went to 704. Find max mem crashed my computer :frown:

A lot of the 8800gt will run lower scores if you clock them to high, when I clock mine up to 700/980 it pushes about 400fps on Lightsmark2007, go to 705/985 and it drops to 390fps. It's a voltage thing I think, trying to pull more volts than are available.

On the XFX model using the bios volt mod 800/1000 is attainable with better cooling than stock, and I've seen 450FPS.

Those were done with Riva Tuner and linked clocks. It seems to run better (mine) if I keep the clocks balanced, IE: core up 25, memory up 25-33, core 50, memory 50-56.

This little XFX MB and XFX GS are a great pair on my E2200 but I'll be glad to see what it can do with my E6750 once I get it.

Slug not knocking your system or card but I see no need to spend the extra money when I can get these results with this setup over what you paid for yours great gaming and still got money to burn LOL.

My Specs:
Intel E2200 2.2ghz @ 3.1ghz 1124fsb
A-DATA DDR2 800 2x 1gb @ 877mhz
