Wow, I really want one of these. I think it's because I didn't opt for the q6600 and felt like I missed out on something. I have been satisfied with my e6700 at stock speeds (I know; I know.... boo to me) and have been making music and gaming just fine.

Now, I've already got my Asus P5N-D 750i in from Newegg and now I'm a chip shopping. I was moments from purchasing a e8400, as it is I am happy with my current Core 2 Duo, but I just happened to see the q9450 on intel's product page. Then after a little searching for the pricepoint I was sold.

Wow, really want; want real bad.:keepfolding:

i, too, am waiting for the new CPU to upgrade my system to quad core. I need to move to quad core so that I can do a better job reviewing the products.

mmmmm . . . me likey, too bad I probably won't be able to upgrade until they become cheaper . . .

I was thinking before to switch over to this chip from a Q6600. But here lies the problem with the Q9450. It has a maximum 8X multiplier so it is FSB limited thus you can only overclock it so much depending on the mobo you use. With a 8X450 you will get a 3.6 Ghz overclock with a 1800FSB. Which is not bad but the Q6600 can go higher even though it uses more wattage and has a little more heat.

If your water cooling the Q6600 is the way to go and if your air cooling then the Q9450 is the way to go for top performance.

I am actually waiting for the budget quad cores. Ever since I got my first dual core for $130 which was the PD805, I use that as my max price for CPU. I hope the come out with a quad core celeron for under $150 because I think a lot of people would buy that.

Anybody else really want 45nm, Q9450?I do want the 45nm technology, but I don't want a non integrated quad that merely uses two dual core chips without shared cache. Thus I'm holding out for the Nehalem. They are putting more cache on the 8000 and 9000 series CPUs, but it's still not going to be as efficient as the multi level shared cache the Nehalems will have. They will also have integrated memory controllers, so the weak link of slow MCs in Intel chipsets could become a thing of the past. The icing on the cake regarding the Nehalems is the Quick Path interconnects and two thread per core data processing they'll have, I can hardly wait, WOOT!

Give me anything more then 1 core and I will be happy.

I would say I want one however I don't necessarily need it.

Im going to wait and see if Intel delivers on 35nm chips first. There supposed to come in 2009. But I do think the future is in 45nm chips i just wanna see if they made a 35 chip that blows all other chips out of the water.

Since I have a Q6600 already, I still don't plan to upgrade. Eight months from now Nehalem will have launched or be about to launch unless Intel runs into more issues. I'm going after a GPU upgrade instead, and I am looking into updating my watercooling loop if it is worthwhile to do so.

Thats a very wise decision but too bad not everyone shares the same thought.

Kougar,

I used to go over to my girlfriends house and just check out ebay for discounted Q6600, like every weekend. Trust me, I love those chips. It just seems that I could never get one. I work on drum and bass (and other electronica --www.myspace.com/symbiosiselectronicaproductions) with my comp too and when I had the extra money I opted out for synths and such. No more! I have reached a general happy feeling with what I do have in the studio so now I'm turning to upgrades.

I got my 750i and now it's time for that lovely Q9450! I've got the capital saved up and I've seen the joys of the quad core owners.

Sh*t, check this out, I one of my friends, that I work with at Fort Drum, decided to get himself a gaming rig and stop trying to play WoW on some HP Laptop so he and I got to talking. He pulled out his credit card, I showed him the joys of online purchasing, and this baby was born three days ago:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Asus Maximus Formula
Saphire 3870 X2:ahhhhh:
4 GB (2 x 2048) PNY PC6400 Ram
Cool Master Stacker 830 (black)
1000W Cool Master PSU
Acer 24'' Wide Screen Monitor (1680x1050)

This thing was crazy nice looking. I had no idea what the case was going to look like and blamo! It was like a Darth Vader Head or something. Not to mention, it's actually cool to the touch, on air. Cool enough to be just below condensing water. Wow.

I'll go quad eventually with general support for quads lacking outside video and sound encoding I'm not in a horrible rush. Going to let the 45nm marinate for a while and after price drops probably make my move.

Fort Drum? As in Watertown, New York? Now that was a nice place, lots of lasting snow... base even had a good bowling alley and shops. :) Hope that guy enjoys his new rig!

Nes, enjoy that Q9450 :) I guess that I am happy with my Q6600... 45nm Quads will OC much better, but they are still the same design. Honestly if I bought a 45nm Quadcore I know beyond a doubt I'd be very unhappy with it after Nehalem was launched no matter how good it was... :ahhhhh:

So I'm just going to upgrade other things that need it and otherwise save up. Really, really save up. Nehalem will require a new board, new RAM, and new CPU... ouchies. :frown:

I'm twitching, I'll probably upgrade when I can get my hands on one.
