You may remember a few years back when tech sites all over the internet were predicting the rise of a Google Operating system. They had all kinds of unusual ideas as to what it might look like or whether or not it would appear at all. Well now we have the answer, kinda: http://www.thinkgos.com/
Not particularly unexpected, using Ubuntu, but interesting nonetheless. The specs aren't horrible on these machines either, but an extremely entry level PC. As for the company which creates this gPC, which all creates a gNotebook or Cloudbook it looks as though the company was create purely for distribution of gOS. Has anyone seen one of these in stores and if so what do you think?

Says right on the bottom of that page: gOS is not affiliated with Google or their partners.
So how is this related to a Google Operating System?

Personally I would not install anything from google. They make massive amounts of cash from selling your personal information so that marketing companies can tailor their ads to you. Installing a OS by them would be a retarded thing to do I think.

I think people should make a new design and ideas about creating OS. If theres a new OS, it is always start bar on the bottom or top. Why can't people create like a OS without a start bar and think of a new one that could guide the user easily? Like... if you just hover your mouse to any corner, this cool 3d menu pops up and guides you and stuff. Mac has star bar on top, windows on bottom, ubintu or linux on bottom.... always same...

Google was brought in court becasue they wouldnt release thigns to the government whereas Yahoo didnt grow any balls and just bent over and handed the information to them. Psh Im getting it to play with it.

My mistake, although it would be easy to make the error considered how many times Google is mentioned on the website. It has got to be about 20 times not to mention the inclusion of the G and rumors that it was the "unofficial" Google operating system, but you're right...just rumors. Still, considering how thorough the use of Google software is on this version of Ubuntu and the fact that Google has made it very clear that it approves you could imagine some sort of link arising later on.

gOS has nothing to do with Google, the "g" stands for green because it runs on low power computers.

The company's name is "Good OS". I think "g" might stand for Good. ;-) At least it does according to thier FAQ: http://www.faqly.com/question/view/id/1199

I grabed it just for the fact it had such low sys req. I have been looking for a new OS for my ole lappy. I wasn't too happy with kubuntu and this is a build of ubuntu with slightly lower sys req. Looks kinda pretty too.

Yeah, the G does stand for good. At that is what it said on the next few hundred websites and blogs I checked....minus the first one that is http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6686/bangheadoy4.gif (http://imageshack.us). Serves me right to trust an article that has the exact same text on both pages and mentions every other name except the correct one: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=902&num=1
Anyway I changed the title so that it hopefully doesn't confuse anyway else.

I'm using XUbuntu atm and it's really great, low sys reqs and great performance...
a little off topic question... what do you think about "OSes" like eyeos.org and youos.com?
