Just trying to get an idea of what racing games are good and which arent..

So far i have heard Dirt, Sega Rally Revo, and a few others.

What do you suggest and why?

Best PC racer is the free BMW game. There is a link somewhere on this forum where to get it. Also, all MotoGP games are great.

Are you talking about the BMW M3 Challenge game? Its fun, but not really much of a game imo

I dont recomend going anywhere near Test Drive Unlimited at all. Um NFS Most Wanted was pretty good.

What do you guys recommend for controls? I think im gonna buy a 360 controller, does that seem like a good idea?

I use a Momo Logitech racing wheel and pedals, that BMW game was the most realistic driver I ever played. NFS are fun, but not realistic at all.

The BMW game does look realistic.. but how long of a game is it? I dont just want to drive 1 car on 1 track over and over.. From what i have seen Dirt is quite realistic also

best customizing game is NFS MW, Carbon was bad PS is even worse

Live for Speed is a good realistic game, and BMW M3 Challenge is a good game to drive the M3.

I like TDU alot.

I find it fun to do the same track 10000 times and get really good at it. Like in real life with my GTO, chances are I will only race/trackday on one track ever. Laguna Seca I want to go to someday though.

best customizing game is NFS MWCorrection, best customizing game is Underground 2. You can literaly customize anything on that game.

DiRT is super realistic is you go standard with a Logitech G25. it almost makes it impossible. Really good game though. Anybody got a link to that BMW game?

I use a regular Xbox controler and XBCD drivers. Works fine. If you can get a 360 controler thats cool. Thanx for the link. Downloading now.

I went into Circuit City yesterday and they had XBOX 360 controllers with the keyboards and mice, packaged in the nice little red box to match the microsoft keyboards and mice, sold as a PC controller, I guess too many people just didn't get it when it was in the green box.

Ive only seen the PC controler in the red packaging myself since it came out. They make the 360 ones and the PC ones and they are both in different pacakges.

GTR2 is a heap of fun and a decent simulator imo.

In my advancing years the reflexes aren't quite so on the money as when I raced the real thing though....

Biggest issue for racing sims for mine is finding decent pedals - a brake pedal that feels like one in particular.

If you're looking for a simulation style of a racing game apparently rFactor is great - Strategy informer review (http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/rfactor/review.html).
Here (http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=downloads) is the download page. As far as i understand it you download the game and until you enter a valid serial it acts as a demo.

I'll definately check that out.. as well as GTR2

As for 360 controllers... it doesnt make any difference does it? The PC and Xbox verions are the same right?

With my Logitech Momo wheel/pedals, there are different versions of the controller set for PC and Xbox, but I believe there is is some work-around to make one work on the other.
I saw it discussed somewhere.....
