View Full Version : XFX 680i LT SLI doesn't reconize SATA

I'm putting together a computer, using the XFX 680i motherboard, and a Western Digital Caviar 500 GB SATAII hard-drive, plus Quad 6600.

During a fresh Windows XP install, right as Windows is about to start I'm getting the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD).

When I unplug the SATA drive, and plug in a regular IDE drive, I'm able to install Winows XP and everything works fine. But when I plug in the SATA drive, the system refuses to boot.

RAID is disabled in BIOS (but I did try installing windows with it enabled, and it still didn't work). I tried pressing F6 during the install and using Nvidia 9.53 SATA-RAID drivers (you really shouldn't need to do that), but it still didn't work.

I upgraded BIOS to P07, and still nothing.

Does anyone know how can I get SATA to work, and install WinXP on it?

Thanks a lot.

Here's an NVIDIA hotfix link I found, but strangely there is no support for XFX listed.

You link does not seem to be working. Once I see it I will take a look and thanks for the heads up.

Here's the link:

Also - I'm in the process of replacing my HD with a new one. I don't like the noise it makes on startup - hopefully it's something on the edge with this one, and the new one will fix it. I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE:

Problem resolved. Turns out there was something fishy with the Western Digital drive. I was out of ideas, so I requested replacement being shipped for the drive, and if that wouldn't work, I'd get a replacement for the motherboard.

When I plugged in the new drive (same model and size), it worked flawlessly right away. I was pretty pissed at Western Digital for wasting my weekend with the drive, but they made up for it, by shipping the replacement 2nd day Air, which made it possible for me to get it in just 2 days all the way from CA to NY. Also - to be fair, tigerdirect takes part of the blame for packing all the components like they're shipping a sack of potatoes. I was shipping for my Quad in a bunch of peanuts (luckily it was still in it's antistatic cover), and the hard-drive wasn't much better off. I'm sure it had something to do with it failing. They could learn a thing or two from the way Amazon packs their products.

Also - I wouldn't even have had the issue in the first place, if I had more SATA drives available to test, because at least one would've worked then. Getting 2 more right now.

Anyways, thanks for help - I can finally install XP right now.
