I've wasted the whole weekend trying to get the SATA drive up and running on my new 680i. At this point I am ready to give up, and since tigerdirect will take a return no problem, I'd much rather just exchange this motherboard for something more stable. You get what you pay for, and since 780i is $250, I figure I'll do it now and have a new MOBO just in time for the weekend.

My question is - are there any known problems with 780i (I'll be using 6600 quad, and 8800GT)? I don't feel like ending another weekend with a disappointment.

If you want 100% support get a intel Chipset, as Nvidia is only good for SLI really.

I upgraded to a 780i after three weeks. Not because I didn't like the 680i LT, but because I'm really starting to enjoy overclocking AND I want SLI eventually. So far, I've got the 780i running stable at a 1600FSB and I have only had 1 issue with it so far and a BIOS reset fixed that. The reason for the price difference is not that the 780i is an inherently more stable board than 680i, so far as I can tell, but that it's so much newer. Newer stuff is always going to be more expensive.

I keep seeing problems like this with the 680iLT.. did i just get lucky with mine?? It recognized my SATA HD just fine without changing anything.. It runs my E6550 (1333 FSB) just fun also with no changes..

I must have gotten lucky, hopefully the RMA replacement will work too.

Careful with comments such as these as there is always more to the story than just a quick blurb.

I love every NVIDIA chipset I have ever used. The recent Intel chipsets I experienced are ok I guess. Stability wise they are both good.

SLI / Crossfire is a marketing checkbox and since less than 10% of users run more than one video card it is sort of a moot point unless you are going down that route.

I have heard some trouble with the 780i's but to be honest I do not recall the issue the person was having with them

If you want to go DDR3 then the 790i will be coming out in a couple of months for you as well.

I don't think there's as many problems out there as people think there are. You just don't hear people come searching for a forum to say "I got my 680i/780i up and running with no problems and I love it!" People search out the forums to try to fix problems, so you don't know how many are out there that have never had an issue. I never had any SATA issues with my 680i LT or my 780i.

It is just that you never hear "P35 - Won't Post", but you seem to hear it a lot with Nvidia.

I never said that there were no problems, or that some other boards aren't less problematic. I said that I don't think there are as many problems as it seems, just by looking at a forum. Figure our forum has ten maybe even twenty and compare that to the number of boards sold. Seems like everybody posting about it says something along the lines of "there must be a lot of problems with this board because there are so many posts about it" when really, there aren't that many compared to the overall number of boards.
