Okay... this is awful... and I'm very frustrated.
So I sent my faulty GPU a while ago... and I just got my replacement GPU
today. I installed it on my computer, and guess what? It doesn't let me
adjust the fan speed either! It's so damn loud like my old one. Aren't you
guys supposed to test the gpu first before sending it to me? So what are
you going to tell me to do now... Send it for an rma again? wait another
week or so? It was horrible that I didn't have this computer running for
1 week and I wasn't able to do any of my homework and job related things...
now you're going to make me go computer less for another week???

Check to see how many wires your fan has coming off of it. 2, or 3?

The only cables I can see is ... a yellow and a black one. So I guess there's
two? unless that's not the one i'm supposed to look for... Anyway I don't want to take the graphic card apart though cause' I'm afraid I cannot put everything back on again... =.=

Post the model number of the card, if I remember correctly from another thread, if the model number posted is the correct model it indeed should be adjustable. That being the case why would you have to pay extra? Hope they get it straight for you.
Posted by you.
Oh really... I have PVT88PYDF and the fan cannot be adjusted.
Sorry, but I'm just frustrated. I never knew that some of the models have no fan adjusment.
My gpu is currently being processed @ rma so I hope they could replace it with the adjustable fan one.
I wonder if I have to pay extra for that... =T
PVT88P is how they all start
PVT88PYDD
PVT88pYDE
PVT88PYDF
Orginial design and have adjustable fan.
PVT88PYDQ
Different Fan but still adjustable
PVT88PYHD
PVT88PYHE
PVT88PYHF
PVT88PYHQ
These versions do not have adjustable fans, but cost less the the previous mentions video cards.

I'd be a little upset myself, especially since you RMAed it due to the fan speed not being adjustable the first time!!! I hope they can get something going for you.
Good luck.

A BIOS update might be able to fix this issue but I am not 100% positive.

If that is the case and the above information is correct, register your new card, open up another support ticket, and either make a new thread or PM XFX Support requesting for a BIOS update along with stating your ticket number.

Angel, I have the same model card, and problem as you, I decided to get the arctic cooling accelero S1 Rev.2, which has since made the card completely silent. It also ends up cooling better than the stock cooler at 100%. my idle temps are 39C. Anyway, I have some pictures of the card with the heat sink removed HERE (http://picasaweb.google.com/JeffSturgis/XFX8800gtHeatsinkRemoved). You can see it has the 2 wire fan. 2 wire fans are not adjustable, I think XFX need to get their facts straight about this. Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the RMA.

Well, isn't the RMA process supposed to give you the same video card, they only replace if it was bad, right?

Thanks for the suggestion Mixmaster, I'll think about it. :)
Well, the model I have is supposed to let me adjust the fan speed... but
apparently the card they replaced me with have that same problem too -
so I'm in the process of getting another one right now. ( Thanks Will :P )
