Okay guys, another quick question. What's the best way to stress your video card in Windows. I'm currently working on finding a stable overclock for my 8800GT. Running ATITool's artifact scanner for an hour and a half, my card is running at 56 degrees. Surely, that can't be full load? It was at about 64 but I cranked the fan to 100% and its just chillin on 56. Idle was about 44-ish. So far I've got 666 core/1674 shader/ 1998 memory.

If you have a full version of 3dmark, you can run the GPU tests in an endless loop.

There is also another but I can't seem to remember what it was called. It rendered these polygons in the shape of loops and whatnot with HDR and all that jazz. If I can find it I post it here.

There is this one I stumbled upon called Unigine (http://unigine.com/download/) however I have not tested it yet.

I've only got the demo of 3dMark06. I'll try the other though and let you know how it is.

You could always play a game for an endless amount of hours to test the stability of your video card's overclock.

EDIT: I found that benchmark I was talking about with the polygon loop and HDR rendering, its called RTHDRIBL or "Real-Time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting" (http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/). Unfortunately it is quite old so getting it to work on a new card isn't a guarantee.

That first one you posted looks pretty wicked. I've downloaded it and now downloading latest dx9 libraries so it'll run. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah, that program so far (the first one) is pretty decent. Stock settings I was getting 160-ish FPS. Everything maxed out, I get about 25-35 on average, so it will really stress it. Card still only gets up to 56 degrees though, I'm liking it. I shall proceed to OC it some more!

Sounds good, I'll have to give both of those benchmark apps a try but more so Unigine since I never heard of it and it looks neat.

Well so far, its awesome. Unfortunately its not very long. Its basically a demo of what their engine can do, as they sell it for upwards of $50,000. So its just looking around one room. But it has some pretty decent effects with some fire and fog thrown in. Lots of different resolutions to choose from, with an array of effects and combinations of AA/AF. Running maxed out, it starts at about 25 FPS and slowly works its way up to about 35.

I just watched the "Captured movie (http://anonym.to/?http://unigine.com/download/video/0.4/Unigine_v0.4_Sanctuary.avi)" of the demo and it looked quite good.

Here are some screenshots for their website:

The best video card stress test that I love to use, this is known to push the video card is the Crysis fps stress test, that fly's through the island. Google it.

I (don't laugh) don't own a copy of Crysis.

Why would I laugh? I don't own a copy either and I would probably rather spend my hard earned money on COD4...

I do however own that.

I do however own that.

Then download this one, Crysis Benchmark Tool (http://crymod.com/filebase.php?fileid=280) and run through that, it loads your GPU immensely...and you'll truly know if your overclock is stable :icon_tiphat:
