Hello,

I have a XFX 8800GT XT (PV-T88P-YDE4). I recently bought this card and installed it in my computer. When I boot my computer I get past POST about once in 4 tries. Then it boots correcly and I can play or be on desktop for hours. However most of the time I do get a black screen when trying to boot.

Reradin on these boards and on some other sites this sounds like the PCIe 2.0+VIA problem. Which I think it is?

I have updated to the lastest BIOS from my Motherboard manufacturer but it does not solve the problem.

I also posted a support ticket regarding this (Ticket #138114). Is there some way one can get that workaround BIOS which lets the card use PCI1 1.0a (pr perhaps you call it Gen1)? Is all warranty removed if I flash my card to use this work around?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I totally forgot to add that my motherboard is a ASUS P5B if that information is needed. If there is any other information you would require to be able to help me in this matter please reply here and I will give it.

If you live in North America you can do anything to your card. No way flashing BIOS would ever void a warranty.

Well everything apart from taking a hammer to your video card or running it over with your car, so no updating the BIOS wouldn't void your warranty.

"Anything" is kinda exaggerated Miker.

It shouldn't be an issue, I will email you the needed BIOS shortly.

Is it likely an 8800GT XT won't work properly with the Intel P35 chipset if it doesn't have this BIOS update?

You will have no problems with a intel Chip, only the odd chipsets, like VIA.

But that said, always update your BIOS.

Well I'm running the latest official BIOS for my motherboard, there's a beta one out for the new E8000 CPUs I believe. But what about a BIOS for the 8800GT XT? Is there any chance a new one is available?

There is no way there is a compatibility problem between a P35 chipset and 8800GT.
