So I have had this card since August of 07 and it has worked flawlessly....until today. I was browsing around the web all day today and then I decided to play WoW. Well as soon as I started the game the monitor gave me the no signal screen and my itunes in the backgorund started to loop. so I rebooted and started back up again this time with no itunes on and opened WoW...same thing....the next time I restarted and decided to open up a different game...opened Tabula Rasa...didnt even get to login and the same thing happened. I booted back up after waiting about 10 mins and went to the nvidia control panel and checked the GPU temp...100C right after boot accompanied by a burnt smell!!! Since it was running at 2x the temp it normally used to I was really concerned.
So wanting to verify it was the video card I swapped it out with my older Nvidia 6800. Once it was installed I opened WoW again...flawlessly no issues whatsoever. I am really perplexed at what to do here. I bought the card because I'm currently a student and dont have alot of extra money to throw around to build a new comp with PCI-E on it and wanted to extend my AGP as long as possible. However with what I have been reading here, these cards are hard to come by lately...oh and we recently had some severe storms here lately that cut my power on and off several times...since I read the power surges are like the bane of these cards I'm sure it had something to do with it
Just to answer the routine questions that I can remember:
Yes my Bios is the latest version
yes my video drivers are the latest version
yes I uninstalled them too and reinstalled them (although I didnt state that above I figured I'd spare you the wall of text)
so what should I do now?
Thanks for your help ahead of time!
