Tried to update to 07 bios, burned .iso to a disc, restarted with disc in drive, everything seemed to go alright, the updater said "flash update complete", I then restarted to nothing but a black screen, i reset the cmos and it now shows it is still the 06 bios. I was really optimistic about finally having an .iso based flash over a windows based one and this is what I get. :frown:

I would only use a Windows based flash as it is what is tested the most, and works the best.

Thats exactly opposite what everyone else i have seen says. I have always though BIOS flashing works better without dealing with the OS

Companies test Windows Flashing all the time, CD/USB/Floppy they don't test as much. As I have said before, how many times have you heard "My windows flash failed" I have never seen one, yet have seen so many people try to use a CD/USB/Floppy and have it fail.

I've tried both ways now, still says bios version 6 after clearing cmos.

ummmmm, last time I checked most motherboard manufacturers recommend using a bootable flash tool as opposed to the windows based ones.

I dont know what to tell you other then trying to redownload to BIOS itself.

I find it odd that it says "flash completed" and is still the P06. You are sure this is the P07 bios and not the P06?

Unless the wrong file is posted on the xfx site. I've dloaded the file twice, flashed it both ways and once in safe mode, still says 06 bios. ????????

Flashing your BIOS in windows is risky just like overclocking in windows; its always best to flash a BIOS in DOS.

At this point i'm willing to try it,in the past dos was the only way I ever flashed bios. what flashing utility would I use for the 680i lt bios flash?

XFX suggest Flashing with windows based flash, so does Abit. I have never heard of a windows based flash failing, but you seem to hear about other methods failing a lot.

Werty, who really has DOS any more? I guess it might be the safest but I don't know if MS-DOS 3.3 would install on my PC. Also can you dual boot it? I have been thinking about trying to dual boot MS-DOS 3.3/Windows 1.1 for a while now.

You never hear any horror stories of user's flashing in windows because they know better not to flash in windows :dielaffin:

Ever heard of a boot disk?

P31 is for the non-lt. P07 is best for the LT.

I've had several Intel boards and they also suggest using their Windows based BIOS update and I've never had an issue with it...currently I use a bootable USB drive that has an image of SYSLINUX on it that then boots a Win98 startup disk...from there I just run the Gigabyte flash tool and point it to the BIOS file on the USB drive, never gone wrong either.

Most companies tell you to use a WinFlash. But people will always like to flash it the hard way. Any time I get a BIOS update I just hit the flash button.

It doesn't happy that much any more... :-/

I have an Asus K8V 754pin AMD board that I bricked trying a Win based flash. Found out after the fact that Asus knew about the problem, but was slow to post a solution on it's website. Anyway, I had an XP based system with the same bios chip pin configuration, so I booted it up, carefully removed the bios chip while it was running, plugged in the bricked chip from the K8V, and reflashed the chip through the command prompt using the dos based flasher. That board is still going strong today.
That was also the LAST time I tried a WinFlash program. All my bios updates are on bootable dos disks.

That is not a WinFlash problem that was ASUS giving you a bad Winflash bin file. They could've just as easily givin you a bad bootable flash bin...

I have bricked a few systems using WinFlash. The only ones that I have got to work correctly is where I booted up in Safe mode. I have note moved over to Vista yet, but I am sure the issue will be the same there.
