View Full Version : Warranty and removing heatsink for 8800 cards?
For the UK/europe warranty is it voided by unscrewing the large heatsink from the card and putting it back on?
I had lots of sut in mine and removed it to clean it but dont want to void the warranty.
Also is it ok to add a waterblock at some point?

If you remove the HS you will void the warranty.

What about the plastic cover for the heatsink? I found it good to remove it to ventilate the heatsink a bit

How can XFX know you removed it if you put it back before doing an RMA?

RAM tape, and so on. I have seen people get a RMA in UK after HS removal but don't count on it.

I don't know if there is a definite way of knowing whether someone took a GPU's HSF off or not unless the thermal pads were thrashed which would make it obvious.

XFX Europe and XFX North America are almost totally different companies. Just because one does something, doesn't mean the other will.

They have the same product, but are different companies.
Just like Honda Japan vs Honda America. One might offer a 5 year warranty, the other a 2 year warranty.
XFX America is run by totally different people then XFX Europe. They run different adds, have different support people, different phone numbers.

Yes, in North America, you can OC it, put on new cooling (Long as you can prove it was as good as, or better then stock) and still be covered by the warranty, even if you are the 2nd owner of the card.

Just had an orgasm. OK, I'm done cleaning up, lol. My GTS doesn't hit great clocks (594MHz causes artifacting!). Sweet, I'm amazed!

(If you are female) Glad I could help you with that.
(If you are male) Ew!!!!!!! :help:
XFX won't replace a card if it can't OC, just to put that out there.
I would recommend a ZALMAN cooler.

OK, I am male, but I'd been really frustrated when I saw people hitting 700MHz+ and I'm here stuck with a 576MHz clock. That was the main reason I didn't splurge on the GTX.
Right, I don't expect them to do that, as that would be unethical on my part. The cooling, however, has a chance of helping, though.
The Zalman VF-1000 looks sweet, but some Zerotherm cooler is smaller (less stress) and is marginally better.

Arctic Cooling recently released a 3x80mm behemoth and am scouting out some reviews.
Just would like to say that I now think that XFX has the best warranty. EVER. eVGA can go and ___________________ (insert dirty/racist/colorful/biased/morally incorrect/slang comment).

Every card will OC different remember. Just because someone gets something crazy high doesn't mean you will. Cooling might help as artifacts are usually from heat.

Exactly. My friends' 8800 cards actually don't artifact, they just get errors and stuff. I have 4x120mm fans in the side of my case, though. Either way, I'm ultra-happy about this. :)
