Found this today, looks like a late addition to the 8 series, looks to be a real budget card at 8800 level. Does XFX have any plans to release one?

I would personally settle with a 9600GT over a 8800GS.

Aah, guess I'm late to the party. I'd do the same thing, but this seems to fill a low-end 8800 niche.

Don't get it confused with the 8800GT, for the $50 for a GT you get a card that is way better.

Trust me I wouldn't. This is just the first time I've heard of a GS. I already own a GT and am very happy with it.

Which is the one thing I don't like about the 8800GS since that really hurts its performance and depending on how the 9600GT is priced, the 8800GS might or might not be a good card to buy..., for me anyhow if I was to decide between the two.

Saw a review last night on the 9600GT and it beat out the HD3870 in almost every test, ran just under an 8800GT.

Heres a review of the EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GS 384 MB (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GeForce_8800_GS/).
And for fun a 9600GT (http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1293/nvidia_geforce_9600gt_512mb_g94_tested/index.html) review.
EDIT: Wow, I gotta say that the performance of the 8800GS really surprised me considering the price point it'll be set at.

I decided to purchase the XFX 8800GS ALPHA DOG 384mb 192-bit and being new here dont want to step on any toes, but from the specs of the card I chose It actually has better core and shader clocks than the GT 680core/1700shader/ but 1600mem of course a little tweak to the memory will fix that of course it is G92 and it only has 96sp over the 112sp of the GT and the 192-bit vs. the 256-bit of the GT but it looks to be a decent card in comparison. I will however run some 3dmarks on it and games to test it and let everyone know the results. This posted for the confirmation of an XFX version and the specs. I will also run GPU-Z and post those findings as well.

My GT is running at 729/1728/2016. I don't think you'll be able to take that Alpha Dog much further than what you're buying it at though.

It seems nVidia is dedicating their marketing branch to make their line up as confusing and tight as possible. What's the point of the 8800gs? I guess the company had to do something with defective g92s .

How about offering an 8800 series for gamers that are on a tight budget? Each card has a niche, and they seem to fit pretty well.

Yeah, not everyone can afford a high end card (or 2 if you're into SLI).
Personally, I just bought a EVGA 8800GT 512 (last Friday). It was on sale at MicroCenter for only $220 and I simply couldn't pass it up.
It's a nice upgrade from my old 7800 GTX. I have the good fortune to be able to afford a more expensive card, but why should I spend the extra money? The 8800GT is a strong performer at a great value.
I wasn't even planning to buy any hardware! (MicroCenter is the nearest store that carries Bawls (http://www.bawls.com/guarana.html) by the case and I love the stuff.)
