Looks like WOW may still be going strong as Blizzard announces Arena tournaments.
"The tournaments are scheduled to start in April with two rounds of online qualifiers in Europe, South Korea, North America, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Each qualifier round will have a per-competitor entry fee - 15€/£12 in Europe; 20,000 won in South Korea; $20 in North America; and NT$450 in the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau - and will run for six weeks. During this time, teams will play 3-vs.-3 matches on the tournament realm in their region, with the top four teams from each round advancing to the regional finals to compete for more than $27,000 in cash prizes. Winners from each region will then be invited to a global championship event to compete for $120,000 in cash prizes, including a $75,000 grand prize."

It's one of those games thats good for people with a sad RL, and they do well in a virtual reality and let it consume them(IMHO). They prolly have a fair amount of insecurities, so when they succeed at something, and become "popular" they want to hold onto it as best they can. The game is boring for me not enough skill required, gear=skill in that game

Welcome to the all encompassing sweeping statement thread... :ahhhhh:
I've been playing Wow for most of last year, I now have a Kara-keyed mage (heavy arcanist ftw!) who only lacks a big enough guild to raid. I would say that yes, a lot of people on that have a sad personal life, I have yet to meet one person that tells me their RL is perfect. However it doesn't mean they are all freaks.
And yes the game is boring (grind farm quests) with a couple of good moment, but I keep playing because when I start something I like to take it to the end. People have spent a ton of time making this world up and I want to see it all. When I'm through the Black Temple, I will either delete the game or buy the extension. None of this has anything to do with me having a sad life. :)
Tournaments are different - to play at that level you really have to follow a military regimen of training, getting wrist therapy and caffeine endurance, so yes you can safely assume that they have no life. But if they can make some money and are enjoying it, nobody has any right to say they are stupid, insane or freaks... When's the last time you spent most of the hours in a day doing something you enjoy hm?

When im sitting in front of the screen masturbating :hide: lol but in seriousness i dont have anywhere near a perfect RL but i still dont find the game that amusing. I only find it amusing when my friends piss me off and i .die them. And they are like WTF DUDE!!:ahhhhh:
Honestly, if i could really make that kinda money at this game id do it. Dosent mean id like it.

O.o That's about the worst assumption I have seen in a long time.
I've been playing WoW steadily for about 2.5 years, and I am nowhere near your description of a WoW player. I could rant more, but I wont.
I'm sure that there are gamers that fit your description to a "t", but don't lump us all in with them.

I just started playing WOW and was addicted the first 2 weeks, but playing time has really tampered off now. I like the game but looking forward to something less cartoony like Age of Conan to come out. The graphics look amazing and seems like a more complex multi player game.

I got my epic flight mount yesterday. I guess I'm done and can delete the game now. :)
I could be raiding but at 1 Kara instance a week, it's not really going to occupy me full time, is it?

Lots more to do after Kara...Heroics, Gruul's, Magtheridon, SSC, TK, Hyjal, BT, PvP... of course, that raiding has more to do with your guild's build and intentions...maybe look into a raiding guild?

My guild's mostly fun/casual... I'm the informal GM, been trying to get more lvl 70's in for raiding but in the last two weeks half the lvl 70's have left because of: Being thrown out of house, suicide, raiding the vault and vendoring everything for a couple of golds, and gquits because 'we didn't give them enough progress'... But who really want tanks who can't tank?
I've raided a bit with the #2 guild on our server, but still my point is that it's not going to keep me busy all day. Karazhan is 2.5 hours once a week... I can breeze through half the heroics with ease... The only problem is finding raid groups.
So I am definitely going to cut back till Lich King comes out. It's fine though, because I have a new job. Getting paid ok money to do research for a university prof. :)
