Hey Guys,
I was just reading a thread not too long ago that was about CPU's and will you get more FPS if you get a faster CPU. Why didn't Crytec and EA make Crysis a bit more CPU intensive. I bet it would have improved more in FPS. I know that Crysis is very dependent on GPUs, but still Core 2 Duos overclocked to 3.2Ghz or higher have no problem with Crysis. Now if they would have just put in support for a Quad-Core and would be more CPU intensive then it would be even better.
Anybody have an answer for this?

The GPU is faster then the CPU, it is that simple. You know how you get .5 FPS in the CPU test on 3Dmark? That is because the CPU just is not as fast as the GPU.

Ok, now this brings up another question. Why aren't they faster for this type of work? If the GPUs can do it then why not the CPUs as well? I know they use a different architecture, but isn't it possible?

GPU is designed to put out video, it does that math very fast, it doesn't need to multitask. A CPU processes everything.

Ah, makes sense. So does this mean, some day there will be a 3Ghz GPU?

They are getting up there.

There is a reason why you need a GPU to processor video data as a CPU can't render graphical data as fast a GPU.
Running benchmarks alone shows this.
Example: if you had two systems with the same specs, except for their video cards, the computer with the faster video card will produce faster frames.
Speaker in terms of stock frequency, a GPU clocked at 3.0GHz will be a while since they haven't even broke the 1.0GHz clock speed. Video memory on the other hand I think could reach 2.0GHz with GDDR5.

Would there be an amazing number of FPS increase if there would be a video card with 1Ghz GPU Clock speed?

A GPU's core frequency alone does not determine a video card's performance so having a 1.0GHz core freq. won't matter if the video card's architecture sucks.
Take the HD3870 vs. 8800GT for example; the HD3870 has higher core freq. yet its slower than the 8800GT.

I'm running 1008MHz (2016 effective)on GDDR3 right now on my 8800GT

haha i always wondered why that happens in cpu bench marking. I play Crysis and before i overclocked my E6750 to 3.2 ghz, the frame was pretty messy but after 3.2ghz its really smooth with 1280x1024, no anti, on windows xp with modified settings to very high. I mean... if u play like GTA San Andreas or any FPS game and play Crysis, u feel the big differnce. The physics are unbelieveable.

Youve got a problem then cause i can run high with my stock 5600+ and 7950GT.

Man this game is awzome!
Crysis is video card limited. Current video cards can't play this game at max detail unless low resolutions. However you need a dual core cpu to run it efficiently.
Any core 2 duo will do.. A x2 will do fine as well.

my Pentium D runs it fine but I am limited by my video card....
Hopefully I win the march contest :)
