Hello all.

I have quite a problem here, and its really frustrating. I have an older XFX branded 8800GT vanilla (600core, 900memory) and after about 30 min or so of playing crysis, the graphics in game start to artifact heavily, eventually crashing my whole system into a hard reboot. I have tried numerous drivers, and beta drivers: 169.25, 169.28, omega drivers, and even drivers that have yet to be released (from guru3d) and it still happens. My card is not overclocked at all, and I have removed the stock heatsink with something better. I have mounted a zalman vf900 with copper heat sinks on the memory, as well as heat sinks on the pwm. My temps never go above 54c, and my card idles around 39-41c. I also have good ventilation in my case (coolermaster cm690) with 2 intake/3 outake, so I don't think its overheating.

Do I have a faulty card, or am I missing something here? Its also been happening in some other games such as unreal tournament III, but more frequently in crysis. I have already applied the crysis patch, and it happens with or without. I also play in dx9 mode. I've also applied the microsoft vista patches and disabled services that I don't need running in the background prior to playing.

Specs:
Intel Q6600 @3.2ghz prime95 stable w/ thermaltake ultra 120 extreme (temps never go above 62c)
4gb (2x2gb) OCZ SLI ddr2 800 ram @ 4-4-4-12 @2.0v MEMTEST86 stable w/active cooling
Gigabyte p35 DS3R rev 2.1 w/ f11 bios
xfx 8800GT vanilla
74gb raptor
Corsair hx620 Power supply
Windows Vista x64

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. This only happens in these current gen games... in old games like counter-strike and warcraft III, it never happens.

And yes, my card is running at the x16 pci express bandwith.

Thanks in advance.

Can you test the card in another computer?

This is the only comp in the house that has pci express... sadly.

i think its a dead card ,when big artifacts appear and they dont move after format and clean windows install and new drivers it means its dead u need to rma that go pick up a ticket from xfx site, and if u are not formated your comp i suggest u format it do a clean instal with new drivers and if then that artifacts appear then i am shure its a broken card

If it only happens in Crysis it is either drivers, or heat.

I think the xfx 169.32 seemed to fix it, at least for now. I played through crysis all the way with only one crash.. but it did not artifact or anything, it just froze. Other then that, works great.

Take off all CPU OC and see if it never crashes. Just because it passes tests doesn't mean it is 100% stable.
