Hey all, Was just about to order the xxx version when I noticed this !

AND
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150254

What the heck happend ? I read that Nvidia was going to improve the cooling a while back but never saw any thing. Then I thought I'd wait to see what the 9600gt would be like (tweaktown.com) before I bought this.
I dont understand what happend. I don't know whitch is better. I don't think the board layout is the same. It looks like my old xfx 6800xt, and that would be bad cuz the layout limited my 3rd party heat sink choices. I would like to use my zalman vf900 if i need too.
 :help:

Get the first one, the one with the smaller heatsink, that what you wont have compatibility issues. Also it will save you more money, because the Warranty covers OC'ing, just encase you blow it up. But the lifetime warranty is only available in the United State.

Thanks for the reply Minvanx77

The first one looks like they changed the pcb layout from what all the other GTs still look llike. They did that with the 6800xt aswell. I'd like to be positive about this. Are you positive they didnt change it ? If they did and I can still use the zalman on the new layout, I still will need to know witch of the smaller memory chips or some thing that i need to cover with heat sinks. At this link it shows that the memory and some other chips need to have sinks. Check it out... http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=102371
Thats why Im so worried now and cant choose.

Well, I have never owned this product before but 99.99% tells me that it should fit in perfectly.

As you can see in the picture the holes are nice and even, one of the holes on the VF-900 should be able to fit that, nice and tight.

Also, another thing I saw is that, the video card uses a 2 pin connector, but the VF-900 has a three pin connector, I dunno if their is an adapter to change from 3 pin to 2 pin.

The 8800GT uses the same mounting holes as the 7900 series cards so a VF900 will fit on an 8800GT.

Here's a link to the XFX with the improved cooling, It's the one I got and it easily reaches the core clocks of the others at much improved temps.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150259

I idle at 44C, and load at 71C with the card. There's also a sweet bios volt mod on those to go from 1.05v to 1.1v and after the volt mod mine and a buddies can hit 800 core clock. To go that high though after market cooling is a must and I wouldn't run one that high 24/7.

Mivanx, See I'm currently useing an XFX 6800xt AGP card. They changed the refrence layout for the board so i had to go serching for a sink that will mount. Just like this one, the holes looked nice and evenly distenced, but where not. The top two holes where closer together then the bottom ones where. Im very lucky that i was able to find one with lots lots lots of help from others on this forum(thanks agian). And the vf900 still didnt mount right, I could only mount it useing 2 holes. And this one looks like it will be the same.
Just compare the pictures and you will see what Im saying. Look at the battery thinggys on both cards, they arent in the same locations. Cant be more like it becuase of where the fans are placed.
I am also aware that the vf900 needs to be connected the MB and not the card.

werty316, you probly mean the same holes as the pciE 7900. The agp version also had a different layout to it if im not mistaken. I was going to get the 7900gs a while back, so you can say I did my homework on the card.

Methious, thats the one with the smaller fan and different layout that im worryed about. I dont want to buy the card then be plaged with not being able buy a heatsink for it cuz XFX wanted to be different then the other video card companys. I'm not joking when i say NOT ONE HEATSINK COMPANY SUPPORTED THE LAYOUT. Not even zalman, people with my same problem were just lucky that the vf900 mounted with 2 screws that werent ment to be used together.

Can I please get some one from XFX in here please !

I dont want to be here all month trying to figure this out. There is a rebate on the older cards till the 29th of this month, and they mite sell out and I will be stuck buying one of the new cards with the changed layout.

Please XFX members !

This is my first post about the 6800xt agp

Here's some solid info on the above mentioned video card, we just water blocked the same card with a standard Swiftech universal 8800 series WB, and enzotech vga ram sinks. I haven't done mine yet as even at 700/975 it still runs well below max operating temps. That is with out the volt mod.

Manufacturer: XFX
Product: XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB (PV-T88P-YDQ4)

When we first sat the XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB next to the reference NVIDIA card something just didn't look right. XFX implimented a larger fan and also increased the opening in the cover to let more cool air in. The slits on the sides of the cover have also been increased to improve airflow around the capacitors and other heat producing components. The changes to the cooling really paid off as the XFX GeForce 8800 GT was 15C cooler at idle and 8C cooler at load thanks to the increased airflow. Not bad considering the XFX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog is running overclocked! Our review sample have a core clock frequency of 625MHz and the reference cards from NVIDIA run at 600MHz.

Here is kind of a lay out of the versions of the 8800GT 512MB
PVT88P is how they all start

PVT88PYDD
PVT88pYDE
PVT88PYDF
Original design and have adjustable fan.

PVT88PYDQ
Different Fan but still adjustable

PVT88PYHD
PVT88PYHE
PVT88PYHF
PVT88PYHQ
These versions do not have adjustable fans, but cost less the the previous mentioned video cards.

No biggie, just passing on the favor they did me over on Legit, I antagonized about the video card for days, then they came out with the review on Legit and I checked with the admin over there.

A lot of the new cards are coming out with the larger fan, but the only way to be sure to get one is that model.

I wouldn't worry about the XXX model, all you have to do is download Riva Tuner, and ATI tool. Every XFX 8800gt I've seen personally (about 12 now) easily clocks to 700/975 with out doing the bios volt mod. On the ones I've done the volt mod they clock up to 800/1000 some higher. Running them that high all the time probably isn't a good idea.(it's just a bios tweak from 1.05 to 1.1v then reflash the card and reinstall the Drivers)

I leave mine at 625/900 normally and get 367FPS in lightsmark2006, with no volt mod @ 700/980 I get 400FPS. On 700/980 which I just use for benching I've never seen it go over 64C. Unless your running an uber resolution 24" monitor you'd be good with the 625/900 alpha dog.

As far as the OC goes it's about a 5 minute learning curve.

I dont know if its a godo idea in the xfx forum to talk about voltmods so you dont have to buy xxx version^^. of course the best thing is to buy the normal version and clock the card just as high as the xxx version, there is no doubt about that.
