So i got a XFX Geforce 8800gt XXX Alpha Dog Edition 512MB and it stopped working. I was playing COD4 and then my screen stopped, my vent kept repeating itself, and i got all these green and other colour lines on my screen. I was like WTF, so i waited like 5 seconds and nothing so i turned of my comp. I thought it had overheated because it has happened before that my comp stopped(before fans). So i turned it back on after 5 minutes and windows wouldnt load. I get past the motherboard screen but all the colours would be messed up. Once i hit the xp loading screen my comp just restarts and goes to a screen asking if i wanna run safe mode or normal, but all these letters are messed up and its hard to read, well only safe mode works but i cant really do anything there. After trying a couple of times i put in my old vid card and the computer worked fine.
WHAT HAPPENED
i have 3 fans=2 pushing out air by vid card/ 1 pulling in air infront
i got a 650 watt psu

Is your PC overclocked at all? What drivers are you running?

well i overclocked my Pentium 4 only up to 3.2(was3.4 before), well for video card drivers idk what they were but i just updated them from xfx like a week before hand. It was running smoothly for about a month then this

Does your screen artifact right from the start when you boot your computer? If it does you need to RMA the card as it means it's toast!

yea it messes up right from the start well once my dad gets home i am taking it to the store since they got a 1 year warranty, if they are being ass i'll use the xfx warranty.
And wat can i do to prevent this do i have bad airflow?
What should i do?

The earlier revisions had a small fan and tended to overheat some. The newer revisions have a bigger fan and are cooler. Opt for the newer revision when getting a replacement.

Does sound like COD4 got it too hot... RMA it then get more fans, try some PCI slot coolers.

i actually found out what happened. My psu pci-e cord fried inside and once i put the second one in my comp worked fine
Looks like your card is hosed.
These 8800gt run hot. You should turn up the fan a notch when you get your replacement.

He said a new PSU rail fixed it.

If your PCI-e cord fried inside it generally means your power supply is the culprit, not up to the task of running a high powered cord. New cord will run it but probably fry another cord eventually.
Check the AMPs your PSU is rated to run on the rail and we need to know the manufacturer.
