View Full Version : How do I validate an 'open box' 7950 S/N before purchasing?

I purchased a new unused open box 7950 gt agp on ebay and I need to find out what the warranty is on it. Apparently the seller doesn't know and requested I find out myself before he ships it to me. I will only want the card if it will have the double lifetime warranty still available to it (in case I decide to eventually sell it myself) Nevertheless, I need to find out. I have the serial number but am not sure how to go about it. I didn't feel registering it at XFX online was the right thing to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks...RpM

Perhaps I can PM an XFX tech with the S/N and he can run it for me?
(that's if I can even PM anybody...I'm new here)

Any takers?

Thanks...RpM

Let me know the serial number and I can find out if you live in the US or Canada.

Its pretty much simple, if you live in the U.S and Canada, you get the double lifetime warranty. If not, you don't.

Is this the AGP version? If it is the AGP version I would not buy it on Ebay, as then have a tendency to blow if they get hot, get bad power, get a picky mobo, get looked at odd, you try to get video out of them. :-)
But you do get a 2x lifetime warranty so you will be covered.

It is the best AGP card you can get, but make sure you have 20amp+ on a 12v going only to the card, have lots of fans to cool it, and have a AGP 8x Mobo with a 800FSB+ CPU at 2.8GHz or higher.

I know what the warranty 'should' be...but has it been registered already is the question that concerns me (am I buying someone else's RMA?)

I have a Bliss 7800gs+ 512mb that I bought off ebay that I've been using for about a month now...very happy with it... upgraded from a 6800 Ultra 256mb. I just accepted delivery of a 24" Sony GDM-FW900 about 20 minutes ago, too! :icon_tiphat: I like Stereo-3D gaming and every little bit of power I can get out of a card helps with that. Not sure if I'll actually see a difference between a 7950 GT and the 7800gs+ but as long as I can get the double lifetime warranty on the card (so I can resell it if I want) I'm willing to try. I'm running P4 2.8ghz 400fsb 4x agp 2gb rdram and can do Crysis with medium settings pretty good (believe it or not) Very tempted to do an ultimate agp rig (800fsb 8x agp & best cpu to go with it) but not sure it's worth it. Maybe someday for sh*ts and giggles. So, we'll see what xfxsupport finds out for me. Thanks for the input guys...I know what I may be in for!....RpM

This card will not run on a 400FSB, AGP 4x system.

And trust me, as the owner of the best AGP system, it blows.

I have seen so many people try to use this card with a low end AGP system, this card is meant for PCI-e and 1066+ FSB PCs, 400FSB just doesn't cut it.

7950GT AGP 512m and 8800GT 512m cost about the same... Just save for a whole new PC upgrade, I wish I did...

Yehhh.....I know.... thing is I paid top dollar for this system when it first came out (P4, AGP & RDRAM) and it seems I've been fighting to keep it ever since.

Upgrades after upgrades....watching other people build new and exciting rigs with new and exciting technologies...only to turn around and see my old girl still chugging along.........

I really need to let go already :frown:

AHHHHH!...but wait!.......I just got a "24 Sony GDM-FW900 today!.......sorry, did I mention that already?......upgraded from a 17" that I've been using for 6 years!!!!!!

Life is good again
