I've been experiencing occasional freeze ups that I had attributed to the X-If Extreme Gamer. I've had 2 of those cards now and get the same results. I have reverted back to the on-board sound and now get similar symptoms. Thes freezes only happen while in game (IL-2 Sturmovik). For other work, mostly software developemt, the system runs reliably.

Today I tried running the nTune Stability Tests. I ran it on each component separately. The memory, CPU and Disk tests ran fine. The PCI bus test froze the system on the first display of the test graphic. I re-booted and tried the GPU test and it froze again after a couple of passes. Given the PCI failed I didn't expect much from the GPU test.

Are these tests reliable? If so what should I be looking for here?

I would start with a BIOS update to the P07, also, are you running 4x1GB or 2X2GB memory? 4X1GB can lead to many strange problems. After your BIOS update try running with just 2GB memory and see if the problem goes away.

Yah check your motherboard temps and try a bios update if you're up to it.

I'm thinking either a GPU problem or a mobo problem. Have you done some overclocking?

Download UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) and run the tests on it, running the tests inside Windows allows Windows and background programs to be involved. Booting to a diagnostic disk eliminates potential software and operating system errors from clouding the issue.

If a driver is corrupted running tests inside windows will often tell you some thing is bad when it's really the driver.

Start with Memtest86 test number 5, run it about a half hour If that passes
Run the Cpu test for about an hour, if that passes
Run the Hard Drive diagnostics if that passes

Try loosening the timings on your ram and letting off any OC you have before testing.

I agree to test with a few other programs just to check. Memtest will be good to test the memory also you can download the free version of 3dmark06 as well.

With Ntune or any other tweaking program designed to push hardware beyond manufacturers limits it's best to know what your using (Research the software). Know what equipment you have and research it's limitations and quirks. See what others have done using the software on similar equipment.

If at any point you find yourself wondering if you know what your doing you probably don't. Stop and find a guide from a reputable source.

Then erase NTune anyway and get Riva Tuner, it won't over clock your cpu for you if you have an Nvidia chip set on your mother board, but if you can't do it through bios then you probably don't need to attempt it anyway.

get rid of ntune
one of the worst pieces of crap ever
its unstable even opening it lol
get the p07 bios
and download the latest prime95 if you want to test your system
do a torture test with the top option clicked(cant remember what it called)
and rounding off in advanced on

For what is worth...I've not don't any over clocking yet. I think a stable system is a prerequisite.

I ran one of the memory tests from the ultimate boot CD for about 30 minutes. No problems detected there.

Then I ran the 3DMark6 test. It goes through all the graphics tests just fine with pretty good frame rates and no flickers or pauses, but when it gets into the CPU tests it bogs down to almost stopped. The frame rate drops to between 0 and 1. Then the next test starts and things are quite normal again. What the heck is the CPU test doing? I’m running a Core 2 Quad (Q6600). It seems to run as it should in all other cases.

Continuing with other suggestions too. XFX support has a few, but none included dumping nTune.

That is perfectly normal for the CPU test. The fastest system tested around the world got about 4.5 FPS on the CPU test. It doesn't use the GPU at all for that test, all the graphics run through the CPU. Now you know why we have dedicated GPU's!

CPU test you will get .1-2FPS as the test only runs on the CPU, not the GPU and the CPU is way slower at rendering.
