"It’s the event we’ve all been waiting for—the arrival of the XFX NVIDIA GeForce® 9600 GT—the first in our family of powerful new 9-series graphics cards. Engineered to deliver up to 90% greater performance than any GeForce card in its class, these babies power outstanding Blu-ray and HD DVD movie picture quality. But the best news is this: They're here."
You guys look like idiots with "HD DVD" in there. Card looks good though.

Yep, they are here. It's very interesting that the 9600 series are almost as powerful as the 8800 series. I would think that a 600 version of the 9 series would not be as powerfull as we have seen on previous version in the 7th and 8th series, but I bet it will be the same thing once the 9800GTX comes out. :)

Better off getting a 8800GT since the 9600GT are way over priced considering it is a midrange card.

8800 will own a 9600... It has a little more clock, same other specs, and less Stream Processors (@ only 64)
WHAT?! Evga has a AGP 8x version?
(Still hoping AGP wins the battle against PCI-e like Blue-ray did HD-DVD)

Just like the 8800GT was when it was released, it is now around the AU$300 mark and very affordable...give the 9600 a couple of months and it'll be a much better deal.
Or just wait for the 9800 cards to be released and see what that does to the prices...

You got to be joking Miker. LOL. You know that it won't happen. AGP is past technology. Now we are more up to the higher end faster slots. :) I know you are still using an AGP system, but you will see I bet in a year or two even you will change you system. Just wait, I can see that happen. ;-)

Indeed, the 9600GTs are out. With less stream processors and half the price!

I would change it now if I had the money/ won a new Mobo/GPU.

This card is pretty good but imo overpriced considering you can get an 8800GT for so cheap. And eVGA and XFX like to tend to the AGP users out there. Im glad they still consider the people who cant afford to upgrade their whole system just to get a new video card. (Even though its time, you still have SOME people who wont upgrade)

hahaha that's such an obvious marketing thing. Ok yes it is much faster than 8600gt but it is also almost twice the price and so not the same class at all. I can get an 8800gt for just a little more. And don't forget the new ATI price cuts.
It will be an awesome card once it drops in price to something a bit more acceptable for a midrange card, that is if it wants to be considered a midrange card at all, performance could be easily defined as mid-highend right now.

Yup, some blatant marketing bull**** right there.
Its a 'midrange' card priced halfway to an 8800GT and halfway there in performance, like a 'mid-midrange' card really. The 88s still blow it away.

From what ive seen of the 9600 GT it is almost comparable to a 8800 Gt in most games. Check out Toms Hardware review. If this is Nvidias mid range card i cant wait too see the power on there high range cards.

The 9600GT is like 10-25fps lower than the 8800GT in almost all games.

Wow are you blind? its only 10 fps down in Crysis and only 2-5 fps down in just about every other game.

It has half of the pipelines of a 8800GT, that means it is slower.
Goliath182
02-23-2008, 05:03 AM
You need to look at tests. Whats on the paper doesnt matter. Look at a PD clock for clock with a Core 2 and youll see a big jump in performance. Stats are just stats you have to look at tests to see the power

What is better, a 3.0Ghz Quad Core CPU (8800GT) or a 3.4Ghz Dual Core CPU (9600)?
Goliath182
02-23-2008, 05:11 AM
Lol thats not the question the question is which is better a 3.4 Ghz Pentium D (8800 Gt) or a 3 Ghz Core 2 Duo (9600 Gt). Lets remeber the 8800 Gt came first as with the Pentium D.
Miker
02-23-2008, 05:14 AM
8800 has 2x more Pipelines, that is the main number in a GPU. Doesn't matter how new it is. Half the pipelines means not as fast.
Goliath182
02-23-2008, 05:15 AM
Well tell that to the tests because they disagree with you.
Miker
02-23-2008, 05:17 AM
Give me a URL to a test that shows the 9600GT out preform a 8800GT.
a 7200 is newer then a 6800... What is faster?

02-23-2008, 05:18 AM
Guys, whats with all the drama; yes the 9600GT is slowee than a 8800GT but not by much as it makes up with having a higher frequency plus the performance difference between the 8=9600GT and 8800GT depend on what settings you are using to test both cards.
The amount of stream processors isn't the only factor that determines a GPU's performance. Take the R600 for example, it has 320 stream processor yet it gets spanked by a card that only has 128 stream processors.

Guys, what with all the drama, yes the 9600GT is slowed than a 8800GT but not by much as it makes up with having a higher frequency plus it depends on what setting you are using to test both cards.
Having half the amount of stream processors won't mean it'll be half as slow you know.
Thank you finaly someone agrees with me. and like i said check out Toms Hardware review of it. Im sure you know how to use Google =).
werty316
02-23-2008, 05:28 AM
I'm not necessarily taking any sides here but there is more that should be mentioned since a single factor doesn't determine a chips performance (this includes CPUs too).
In some cases the 9600GT is 15-20fps slower than the 8800GT and in other cases its only 5fps slower but the one thing that needs to be put in the back your head is settings that were used during the tests.
Both of you agree that the 9600GT is slower but I guess some of you perceive it as not being as slow as others may see.

He is saying they are almost the same? Yet in Crysis you get 20-30FPS less...
werty316
02-23-2008, 05:41 AM
The 9600GT performs quite closely to the 8800GT in Crysis so a 20-30fps difference in is a bit exaggerated.
Goliath182
02-23-2008, 05:41 AM
Its 10 FPS at 1900 by 1200

O my bad wrong res its 1680 by 1050. and its less than 10 26.2 on the 96 compared to 33.8 on the 88. and with 4x AA and 8x AF the 96 got 18.4 Compared to 21.78 with the 88 Gt

After studing some of these tests i have seen that the higher the resolution the closer the gap is between the cards. The 9600 Gt may very well beat the 8800 Gt in some games at 1900 by 1200.

Tom's Hardware seems to say the 8800GT is faster then at 9600GT in every test...

Just admit that a 9600 is not comparable to a 8800GT. Just the test in one game doesn't matter, it is the average, and the average is saying the 9600GT is slower then a 8800GT by a nice sized gap.

heck I bet even an HD2600xt could smoke em LOL at least they have 120sp with thier 4 rop's.
:dielaffin: if you made any sort of bet you would have lost as the HD2600XT is far from being faster than the 9600GT as having more stream processors won't necessarily make a card faster. I thought I covered this earlier...
Exilon
02-25-2008, 03:48 AM
Yeah, it seems that the 4 ROP thing came from a GPU-Z screenshot that didn't read the 9600gt correctly.
Dragon_CPU
02-25-2008, 05:46 AM
Really 16 rop's everywhere I've looked that has shown it in GPU-Z it shows only 4 rop's????
This pulled from tweaktown on thier tests of a 9600gt:: would post a link but as I'm new I can't do that.
Information is still kind of vague at the moment as a lot of the technical information hasn’t been released. Fortunately GPU-Z shows us a whole lot. We can see the chip is based on 65nm technology, has four ROPs and 64 Unified shaders. We can also see fill rate numbers along with the clocks.

Oh and yes i know the 2600xt is slower it has 128-bit what a shame it could have been a great card with 256-bit and gddr4.

The 2600XT would be slower based solely on the oldness of the core archetecture.

Was wondering which would be worth it more. 2x9600GTs in SLI or a single 8800GTS G92? I will be getting a bigger monitor some time after the vid card upgrade.
EDIT: Nvm i just realized these 9600GTs are on a green PCB. Wtf XFX?
