Hey there!
I just bought a xfx 7900 GS 450M AGP 512mb DDR3 graphics card for my aging pc cause my old Radeon9800 crashed....
But what I didn't expect is that this card is so extremely noisy!!!! It seems like the fan control is not working, I have used several utilities like RivaTuner and nTune and tried all tricks like setting the Power-Saving profile to "Power Saver" or whatever but nothing helps, the card is running at 43°C all the time and the fan just runs through on that extreme noisy level, doesn't change anything if I turn aero off (using vista), also it doesnt get faster if I play games, it just keeps its speed level, I think there must be something wrong!

what can I do?

They are loud cards, but they like to be as cold as they can be. I would leave it at 100% if you don't want it to blow.

If I am not mistaken the 7900GS AGP card does not have variable fan speeds. Miker is correct that the video card likes to keep itself as cool as possible.

How about getting a fanmate?

The thing is that these cards blow a lot. Most people put PCI slot coolers next to them and everything to keep them cool. It is not a good idea to be slowing down the fan. If it only has 2 wires for the fan there is no way to control it. Also know these card do not like to have new heatsinks put on them either. (Nasty habit of getting a tint)

oh damn, you guys sure?

I mean, got my pc running almost 24/7 and have to sleep next to it, that means I'll have to return that 7900GS....
Is there some alternative that doesn't generate that much noise but gets me almost equal performance for my agp slot?

damn, why does this stupid card have to be so loud when my pc is just idle :jawdrop:

Nothing is/will be faster then a 7900/7950 512m that is AGP.

Here is a link to my 7950GT AGP user guild. It will apply to your card too.

Some things to remember is with time the card will break in, making the fan quieter, and you will get used to the noise.
