Hello all who read this and are interested,

I decided to buy the new XFX 8800GS Alpha Dog to try it out based on the clocks and specs it looks like it will be a promising card. It has 680core/ 1700shader/ 1600mem clocks the core and shader clocks are better than most 8800GT's at stocks. Now I know the GT has 256-bit over the 192-bit and 112sp over 96sp but I think with a few tweaks the memory clocks especially this could be a very good card. I will run some tests 3dMarks and games on it when it arrives monday the 25th no UPS weekend deliveries (arrgh) as I myself am very Anxious to see how this little G92 chipped card performs on all stock system settings then on different OC's. I will post my findings on Here Monday night for any others who maybe curious as I am. Also i will run GPU-Z to check all the specs and be sure they are what they are supposed to be.

GS is way slower then a GT. *WAY*

It is so crippled with that memory bus that the thing is like a 8600...

How do you define it as being way slower?

The 8800GS is actually a decent video card considering their price point. If you run games at 12809x1024 with a little bit of AA and AF enabled however I would recommend a 8800GT or 9600GT over the 8800GS.

Hey I know its no gt but I did research this thing for days and looked at all the reviews and comparisons I could find with the right tweaks or maybe I,ll even just edit the bios for the clocks it needs. Anyways this can be a great card now as its been stated the 192-bit is limiting but it really cant be that big of a limit its only 64 bits shy of 256. thats not that bad at least they didnt go 128-bit lol. And from all the tests and reviews I saw this was not way slower than the gt now I admit if using AA and that yes it does slow it down but its a video game not a movie how amazing does it need to look ???? not matter how many fps AA AF its still gonna look like a game. I personally never run AA or AF ever, I will for tests on this, Oh well I wrote this for just this opinions and they are all welcome. thanks for your replies. Oh and miker the GS smokes the 8600's so i would say its more like a GT jr.

Price to Performance is way better then that of the GS. GS is still a lot of money for a crippled GT.

not really I paid 169.99 for it, its better than the 125.99 I gave for an HD2600XT that while a decent card was severely crippled due to 128-bit and only 4 rop's but great clocks 850c/2300mem ddr4 so i do know the GS will smoke that one lol.

One good thing I did find out is that I did buy the better of the GS cards by going XFX as it doesnt have an oc'ing limit of 680core on it as evga does so with that plus this thing should be made to perform as well as the GT we will see in other reviews of the GS even the evga was made to perform very close to the gt and even better in some of without AA, AF we know itll slow down a little with AA,AF. but its ok Ill do my tests then see where it stands. Also it does appear to be better than the first of the 9600 series the gt I mean they are cut to only 4 rop's and 64sp whats up with that.

Miker, the 8800GT is $50 more than a 8800GS and considering the performance you get from the 8800GS, its price to performance ratio is quite good.

The overclock limit isn't a brand specific card, its a software limit.

Well i had a whole paragraph on the price thing written out but my laptop is gay and is spazzing on me and went back a page. SO ill just put what i put initialy.

Id say its a brand thing. My XFX 7950GT can clock way higher than my Asus 7950GT can.

Here is a link to the scores I got when running one XFX 8800GS 680/1700sh/1600mem against 2 HD2600XT's in crossfire 850/2300mem.

http://service.futuremark.com/results/showAllResults.action

The last scores on 3Dmark03 the high 37000+ score is OC'ing the 8800gs to 725/1813sh/1700mem the other is normal clocks the 2600xt scores are low single card and 25000+ crossfire only thing I had to test against but It still shows this card is very capable . By the way a single 2600xt only ran a 5000+ in 06. Also you will notice that the 8800gs scored this well in VISTA while the Xt's scored in XP I'm sure the GS would score much better in XP.

You will also notice that the XT's had the benefit of my E2200 cpu being OC'ed quite high while the GS did not and it was run on an asrock board with ddr2 667 2gbs while the XT's were run on an MSI intel P35 board with ddr2 800 3gbs.

An extremely amazing card for the price.

For the price you can't go wrong with the GS. It's not too far off the 9600gt. It might even catch up with 9600gt once the games use more shader effects.
